Mason, Raymond Arthur – 81, of North East Point, after a three-year battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Born on March 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Grant and Sadie (Smith) Mason. In Ray’s younger years he worked a variety of jobs throughout Ontario and Nova Scotia. His final working career of 30 years was with Tidewater Construction. After, spending 25 years living in Shubenacadie, NS with his wife whom he cherished. Ray retired and they moved back to Cape Sable Island, NS. Ray had a big heart and was always generous and kind willing to help his wife, children, family and friends in any way. Ray enjoyed being actively involved in the Newellton Cemetery with the mowing, fencing and anything that needed fixing. His love for woodworking and carpentry was top-notch. He also shared his wife’s passion for going on estate and yard sale adventures. Also attending many Jamborees while enjoying the entertainment, he made many friends over the years on his travels. Ray ended up taking in a stray cat that he had fallen in love with, much to the surprise of all since he had never been a cat lover previously. Eunice used to tease Ray that he loved “Miss Kitty” even more than he loved her. Ray was a much-loved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle and will be missed by all who knew him. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Eunice; children, Graham (Julie), Amy (David), Andrew (Heather), Trina (Durwood) and Susan; grandchildren, Gairon, Cameron, Callum, Gareth, Brynn, Taylor, Mason, Promise, Jackson, Kara, Nicholas and Brittany; siblings, Marion (Carl), Walt, Thelma, Linda, Wayne (Cathy), George (Jane), Carol, Stan (Bonnie), Dave (Barb), Shelia, Neil (June), Kenny (Elaine) and Sandra; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by his siblings, Warren and Brenton. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Adams, VON care, palliative care, continuing care, doctors and nurses on the 3rd and 4th floors, including the support staff of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. The care and compassion you gave Ray was greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. In keeping with Ray’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Newellton Cemetery extension, Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund or any charity of choice.
