July 26th, 1968 - March 26th, 2020
Ray Pino passed away on March 26, 2020 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born in Santa Fe, NM to Carlos and Judy Pino on July 26, 1968.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Nicolas and Jesusita Pino, grandparents Juan and Sofia Quintana, and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He is survived by his parents, his wife Aubrey, his children Raechel, Miquela, Carlos, and Brianna, in-laws Mark and Julie Gibbons, brother Richard (Sharon), sister Rebecca, nephew Gabriel, niece Maya, and several uncles, aunts, in-laws, and cousins who all loved him dearly.
Ray graduated from St Michael’s High School and the University of New Mexico before finishing his education with a Masters degree in Education and Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.
Ray always loved sports, especially football and baseball. He started coaching at the age of 16, when he coached at an elementary school. He continued coaching different sports, which eventually led to his career in teaching. He was a teacher and coached multiple sports at various high schools throughout the state of New Mexico.
He moved to Arizona in 2004, where he taught classes in algebra, technology, and culinary arts. After receiving his Masters degree, he was promoted to Dean of Students at Carl Hayden High School. He then became the Assistant Principal at Cesar Chavez High School. For the last 7 years, he has been the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal for North High School. In 2017, he was chosen as Phoenix Union School District Athletic Director of the year.
Ray truly enjoyed coaching and teaching, but his true love was always his family. He absolutely loved being with family and friends. He knew what was important in life, and he knew how to be the person everyone needed. He is loved by so many, and he will be missed.
You left us so suddenly it was hard to comprehend
How a life that burned so vividly had come abruptly to an end.
We were all left staring at the spark you set alight
In the hearts of those around you, that burned through our dark night.
The flame of our potential; all the great things we could do
If we would work, determined, and stand tall and firm and true.
You moved with so much energy it was easy to get caught
In the current and the power of the lessons that you taught.
So, you belong to the ages now, a legend big as day.
That soul who gave so much to life, our bright and shining Ray!
Private Family services have been held. A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be conducted at a later date.
