Anyone that knows dad, knows that he loved his slot machines. One of my favorite stories dad told me about slots, he told me when we went to Denny's one day. I asked "Dad, do you ever drink coffee at night? or just morning coffee?" "There was one time that I went to Wendover with your mom and I was sitting at the Phantom slot machine. I have a rule, I put in $20 and if I lose $5-$10 I'll cash out, then go to another machine. If I put in the $20 and am winning and get over $40, I'll cash out, put the winnings in my pocket, then go back to the machine that was winning. I'll keep doing that as long as the machine keeps paying. This one night I was sitting at the Phantom and it kept paying, so I kept playing. Cocktail waitress would come around 'Cocktails?!' and I'd ask for a coffee. Then I'd see her come around again, and I'd get another one. I kept on winning so I kept on playin, kept on getting coffee. I realized I'd been sittin there for a while, so looked at my watch....(big eyes) 6am?! I thought I'd better get up to the room, so went up there and mom was asleep in the bed. Decided to pull out the cash and count how much I ended up with... over $600!" I love this story for so many reasons, but if that story doesn't highlight his crazy patience I dont know what will haha.

I always loved that dad would almost shout at ya "Hey!" you'd think you'd done something wrong, then he'd quietly say "I love you!". He did it all growing up, and my favorite was watching him do it with the grandkids. Hey!...I love you:)

What is your earliest memory of Ray?

My earliest memory I remember was when we lived in Green River Wyoming. Dad sent all us kids to bed to take a nap. Ray sneeked us out the window so we could go play with our cousin's. When he said it was time to go back he lowered us back through the window feet first onto the couch. Little did we know that Dad was asleep on the couch and Ray lowered us on top of Dad's stomach. We all got sent to bed again with a spanking.

I am always going to miss the “hey what you doing? Wanna come over?” Phone calls. It made me happy my dad would call me to come help him. Sure he could have done it on his own, but he knew it would make me feel good doing it for him. Even to the very end, he would fight the urge to help me, yet he would just watch and see the person he raised and the things he had taught me. ❤️🫶🏻🤟🏻

How did Ray make an impact on your life?

Ray was a wrestler in high school. We would go to all his meets. Ray graduated when I started high school. He wanted me to try out for cheer leader, I ran around with not so poplar kids in school. To be a cheerleader I would have to lose my friends. I chose my friends and when I got home I told Ray what had happened. I thought he would be so disappointed in me, instead he put his arms around me and told me he was so proud of me for standing by my friends, it showed what a great person I was. I could go to him with any concerns I had. He would listen, then he would ask me what I feel like I should do. He helped me learn there is more than one way to figure out problems.
