Raj Dulari Kaul

Raj Dulari Kaul was born on 27th of May, 1933 in Srinagar, Kashmir to Shri Shyam Lal Wali, a social activist and her mother, Shrimati Gunwati Wali. She absorbed and carried on her father’s love of learning and spirituality and became a devoted disciple of Swami Rama of Haridwar. Raj Dulari married Krishan Lal Kaul and raised four children in idyllic surroundings and during a golden era in Kashmir where people from around the world visited for spiritual learning and enjoyment of the local atmosphere. Raj Dulari gladly hosted many of these friends from around India and the world. Many of these memories and experiences are recounted in her book “Swami Rama of Haridwar“, titled in honor of her guru, who was central to her life. She also maintained her family’s appreciation of art and culture, purchasing paintings she admired, and even wrote her own book. People who came to know her appreciated her intelligence, generosity, selflessness, and care for others.

Raj Dulari, with her husband, Krishan Lal Kaul, remained in Kashmir during many hardships as well, such as the violent exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and a terrible flood which stranded them in their half-flooded house for many days before an Army rescue. They endured through these challenges, maintaining a healthy business and family, holding their ground in Kashmir during these times. She lived a full life, enjoying her friends, family, hometown, and spiritual pastimes until December 11, 2023, where she passed away at the age of 90. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, 4 children, 8 grand-children, 3 great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
