December 14th, 1979 - January 24th, 2021
Philip Matthew Lopez, 41 years old of Alameda, CA passed on January 24, 2021 from Covid-19 at Alameda Hospital. He was born on December 14, 1979 to Virginia Maria Lopez and Rogelio Pena in Vesper Hospital of San Leandro, CA.
Philip graduated from San Lorenzo High School - Class of 1996. Philip originally showed interest in television production upon high school graduation and briefly attended Ohlone College taking classes to fulfill his general education requirements. As a student, Philip also worked at various retail jobs. There he met a friend who introduced him to Victory Outreach Ministries where he was actively involved with the Mens of Valor Mens Ministry program.
After the death of his mother in 2012, Philip decided that it was time to be true to himself. He began that journey with seeking out an educational program for massage therapy certification.
In 2014, Philip became a full-time student at Carrington College of San Leandro. He completed the program in 2015 with recognition for academic excellence on the President’s List and Dean’s List with a massage therapy certification.
Philip worked for the B&B Club 21 in Oakland from 2015-2017 upon graduation. Philip also worked as a Massage Therapist for New Age Chiropractic in Fremont from 2016-2019. When Philip was not working as a massage therapist and/or security guard and/or a bar back at Club 21; Philip could be found working at Lost City Antiques in Alameda (and now the current name of Katz Meow) buying, selling, and/or trading his collectibles.
Recently, Philip returned to retail since massage therapy and working at club 21 have been negatively impacted by the pandemic with small businesses closing their doors. Philip last worked at Goodwill Industries for 3 months prior to his passing.
Surviving is his forever partner, Jorge Duenas Ponce; his older sister, Andrea Lopez Salgues and her husband, Mathieu Salgues; his older brother, Robert Lopez; his nephews, Diego and Teo Salgues, many loving and supportive family members, and countless loving and supportive friends.
A service of remembrance is being organized for Saturday, February 20th. Those who wish to remember Philip in a special way may make gifts in his memory to their favorite charity and/or (the city of) Alameda Food Bank and/or Meals on Wheels in Alameda.

♥️Some of his art work. He drew me as a superhero and even gave me a knee brace because I have bad knees. ♥️
