If you wanna take something somewhere you better have a vision for where you wanna take it before you start getting there.

Peter Katsis was a force at the heart of the American music industry for more than three decades — a manager of rare vision, blunt candor, and unshakeable devotion to the artists he believed in. Born in Chicago, Illinois, around 1957, Katsis came of age in a city on the edge of a cultural revolution, and he helped make it happen. He discovered the industrial rock band Ministry at just 23 years old, a move that announced the kind of fearless instinct that would define his entire career. Working as a talent buyer and promoter at Chicago's The Metro, Club C.O.D., and The Riviera Theatre throughout the 1980s, and as an A&R executive at Trax Precision Records, Katsis placed himself at the epicenter of the exploding house music scene, booking pioneers like Marshall Jefferson and Adonis. Chicago royalty, his peers would later call him — and the title fit. In 1989, he relocated to Los Angeles and joined The Firm as a founding partner, where his reach expanded to a remarkable roster that spanned virtually every genre of popular music: Ministry and Smashing Pumpkins in alternative rock; Korn and Limp Bizkit in nu-metal; the Backstreet Boys and One Direction in pop; Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg in hip-hop; Morrissey in indie. In 1999, the Backstreet Boys' Into the Millennium Tour set a then-Ticketmaster record by selling 735,000 tickets in a single hour, earning Katsis a Pollstar Award for Most Creative Stage Design. His most singular achievement came in 2005, when he secured special permission from Presidents George W. Bush and Fidel Castro to bring Audioslave to Havana — the first major American rock band to perform in Cuba since the trade embargo. More than 70,000 Cubans filled the streets for a free concert that stood as a testament to music's power to transcend politics. Co-founding Prospect Park Entertainment in 2008 and later working as a partner at YM&U Group and founder of Stole the Show Management, Katsis never stopped championing the artists he loved. A 2002 Vanity Fair profile called him "The Best Music Manager In The Business, period." Those who worked with him would say the title, if anything, undersold the man. Peter Katsis is survived by his son Ian and his sister Anastasia Katsis. He died on August 6, 2026, at the age of 69, from complications of congestive heart failure. He made things better. He will be much missed.

Heartbroken that Pete is gone. I'll always cherish his intense candor and deep love of great music; which was infectious. And he deserves immense credit for helping to usher in the alternative revolution of the 80's and 90's and beyond. He was truly one of a kind. One of us. And Chicago royalty through and through.

Sharing the sad news that OG legendary manager, Peter Katsis, passed this AM. He was a gentleman, knew his music properly, cared, and showed up for what and who mattered. He made things better. He will be much missed.
