Percilla's Daughter
Percilla Ann Edwards
April 13th, 1949 - April 16th, 2024
April 13th, 1949 - April 16th, 2024
Our Matriarch, our Mommy, so loved.
Percilla Ann Edwards was born in Valdosta, GA, to the late Lester and Willie Bell Jordan. Her parents would later migrate the family to Detroit, MI, in 1952. Percilla was educated by the Detroit Public School system and was non-denominational in religion, accepting all paths to God, welcoming lessons from the Church of God in Christ, Pan-African Orthodox Christian, Missionary Baptist, and Jehovah's Witness, as she found great life teaching in all religious practices.
Having worked many jobs in many professions, Percilla was very skilled in administrative work and management; she was also active in the community, championing the first community watch group in Detroit, Ravendale, volunteered for various organizations and charities, worked as an entrepreneur, and cared for those who did not have dedicated homes. In all that she has done, her favorite work involved loving and raising her six children: Terrell Sr. (Shinyoetia), Floyd Jr., La Shumbra (Larry), Chekaisha (Roger Sr. "Redd"), Desiray, and Kenya (Larry). She also loved and cared for her godchildren and honorary children. Percilla also abundantly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fur babies and grand-cat.
Percilla was the last of seventeen children and the oldest living, making it to seventy-five before making her transition. She leaves to honor her memory, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Percilla was passionate, quiet, funny, mellow, observant, forgiving, protective, progressive, and perfectly human. It's difficult to sum up a person's essence with a few anecdotal words yet it is because of these and so many other verbs that we all love her, honor her, and miss her.

Percilla, I will forever remember how you were able to convince my mom to allow me to spend the night at your house for a sleepover with La Shumbra. I could NEVER go to anyone's house like that! She was overprotective but she somehow knew I would be in safe hands with you when you two first met. I will cherish the memories of just feeling part of the family, chilling, listening to music, and eating snacks. I have always felt safe in your company and you have given off so much love and support to people. I appreciate your warm smile and the times you have given me guidance when I needed it most. I will always cherish the memory of the last time I saw you and how much fun we had! I was able to do "that thing" I said I wanted to do with you...the expert...lol. I was able to just be in the moment and relax cause I knew I was safe with you and your family. I have been blessed to have known you all these years and to have seen you live your life and enjoy the time with your family. You will be missed! I know you and my mom are somewhere watching over all of us and smiling. And Felix is probably like "about time" cause he got you back by his side. Love forever. Tiffni
