“Those we love and lose are always connected by heartstrings into infinity.” - Terri Guillemets
Penny Wood, 81, of Redmond, WA, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2024, after living with terminal cancer for the past 18 months.
Born in Seattle, Penny earned her Master’s degree in Education from Western Washington University. She dedicated 47 years to teaching, spending the majority of her career as a 6th-grade teacher at Gregory Heights Elementary School in the Highline School District, where she made a lasting impact on countless students.
Penny is survived by her sister, Priscilla Dickson; her children, Joy Mitchell, Juliana Fisher, Jarret Wood, and Marla Blue; and her cherished grandchildren, Rhett, Rhodes, Chase, Bennett, Addison, Hayden, Graham, Corinne, and Shannon.
Penny had a remarkable talent for connecting with everyone she met. Her warmth and charm were evident in all her interactions, even when she was delightfully over-sharing. Her energy seemed boundless, whether she was tending her flowers, enjoying time with friends, or immersing herself in a game of Mexican Train. Penny’s endearing quirks, like her tendency to misplace her phone or water bottle and her fondness for gadgets she rarely used, only added to her lovable nature. Perhaps most of all, she will be remembered for her steadfast presence and the comforting anchor she provided to those she loved.
Her children extend their heartfelt thanks for the support and care provided by friends and loved ones throughout her illness.

Penny and I had many great times, we did an Alaskan cruise, trips to Lopez, Eastern Washington. We laughed giggled and I’ll miss her terribly. We who spent time with her were the lucky ones. She gave fully and thoughtfully.

Your Mom and I had some wild and crazy times when we were single and teaching together at Gregory Hts. We had a particularly memorable trip to a Club Med followed by more fun in Puerto Vallarta. However what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico. She was a very special person and friend.

I loved Penny as another mother figure as I grew up with Joy starting in middle school. I especially loved our trip to Key West and all our camping trips. There would always be so many laughs around her and I can’t imagine a family event of Joy’s without her. As I got older I also loved connecting with her teacher to teacher which was always such a pleasure. I’m going to miss her a lot and I send so much love to the rest of the family!

I meet Penny in College where we both graduated from Western in Bellingham. We shared many, many fun times at college and after graduation. She has always been a special person who loved people, family and fun times. I cherish the good memories and will miss her wonderful laugh. She raised wonderful and kind children whom she cherished. She loved all those grandchildren. I couldn't keep track of all of them but she had fun stories about each one. Bless you all for how wonderful she was cared for during this tough tough health journey.
