Patrick Lo, 64, of Richmond, BC, Canada, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2022 after a 4.5 year long battle with ALS.

Patrick was born in Hong Kong on November 20, 1957 to Kit Ying and Chi Chung Lo. He immigrated to Canada in August 1969 and later, he went on to study History and Accounting at Langara College. His interests shifted to working in the entertainment industry, and he secured his first job as an usher at the Orpheum. From there, he worked a variety of jobs, including one as a valet before he landed at the Capital 6 theater as floor staff and worked his way up to manager for Famous Players. While working there, he met his dearest friends that were a big part of his life, including his wife Rosie. They married on July 5, 1997 with a reception at Hotel Vancouver, which became a very important place for those closest to him. Patrick took pride in sharing the finer things in life with his friends and family, bringing them to world class restaurants and his favorite cities to experience the same things he enjoyed.

Patrick will be sorely missed by his wife Rosie, daughters Joelle and Jamie whom Patrick loved dearly. He also leaves behind his mother, Kit Ying, sister Peggy, brother-in-law Sam, and a large group of close friends, which included his beloved theater co-workers, as he’d love to make conversation with everyone he met.

The family would like to thank the ALS Society of British Columbia, Provincial Respiratory Outreach Program, the medical team at GF Strong and Vancouver Coastal Health for their support over the last few years. To leave a message for Patrick or memories of him, please post a tribute at https://www.mykeeper.com/profile/PatrickLo/. Patrick’s celebration of life will be held on June 4th at 10:00am at Oceanview Funeral Home in Burnaby.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patrick’s name to ALS BC’s Project Hope by visiting https://www.alsbc.ca/project-hope/. Your donation will help find a cure for ALS and provide opportunities for patients in BC living with ALS to access clinical trials.

Sadness struck when I heard it. Memories came flooding back of the fun time we had as kids, and the endless chats and laughs at immense loudness in accordance with family tradition in family gatherings, which I wish we could continue to do so, but impossible. Patrick, your presence would be sorely missed. God bless.

In the early 90s I was fortunate to work in Vancouver as a regional manager for Famous Players, and so got to work with, and get to know Patrick . Patrick is one of the nicest and most talented people that I have worked with, over the years visiting with him we laughed a lot about a lot of things, I learned much from Patrick about Business in Hong Kong and Vancouver. Patrick was always concerned for his staff, his team and his customers, they were his passion and no matter what we talked about Patrick always brought things back to what we could do for people. He worked with the company to expand food facilities, get the best possible sound in the theatre and enlarge screens, his vision was a world class entertainment experience and he coached and trained his teams to deliver the same for customers. Over the years he mentored many people that went on to be successful managers and business people in other industries, all of them credit Patrick's leadership to their success and vision. In Vancouver Patrick Lo was very much the Famous Players brand, the success of the Capitol 6 and is iconic place on Granville street were due in big part to his efforts. Even the people that did not know his name felt the benefit and his presence on the entertainment experience. That skill and that vision for the customer he later took over to IMAX. Patrick could back into a parking space like nobody ever, at high speed but with such amazing precision, I asked him about that once and he simply gave that Patrick Lo shrug and said I was a valet for a couple of years ... I had better be good at backing in, and then gave that whole body laugh the way he would. People who knew Patrick well, knew a few things about him; His passion for business and people, his love of movies, and his one true love and that was Rosie. People were honestly so impressed with how much he adored her, and when the 2 of them married people felt it was like the perfect Hollywood movie ending; the Guy gets the girl, the girl gets the guy and they ride off into the sunset together. I am sure that Patrick and Rosie built a truly perfect life together. Patrick Loved movies especially the big grand blockbusters, as I thought about some of those movies one quote stuck out to me.. " All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." - Gandolf Lord of the Rings.. Patrick chose to make a difference for people, to care about them, to coach and lead them, to improve the world around them in the best way that he could. Patrick left more in the world than he took from it, I do and will miss him and the world is better for him being here, but sad that he is gone. However I think that Patrick left a little part of himself in all of the people that he touched in his life, and in the end that is all that one person can do, he did it well. Thank you Patrick

Patrick had such an adventurous attitude towards life. Anything that he did, he did with zest and lived life with passion. He so enjoyed showing Rosie and his girls the world through travel and of course, all the fantastic restaurants. He was such a foodie! We were so blessed to know him and so blessed to be included in his circle of friends. He introduced us to many new experiences and because of him, our horizons expanded. Who else could persuade us to throw all our 4 young kids into the minivan, drive 3 hours to Seattle, to eat steak at Ruth Chris... and then drive back the same night? Who else could persuade us to fly to Las Vegas just to try out a Michelin starred restaurant to eat food with gold flakes in it? Who else could persuade us to try cruising (with kids) and introduced us to the world of art collecting? Only Patrick. So many cherished memories for us to fondly remember. Our heartfelt condolences to Rosie, Jamie, Joelle and the Lo family. We will dearly miss you, our friend - but we will meet again in glory. Rest in peace.

It was with great sadness that we heard of Patrick's passing and his challenges of the past few years. It was a pleasure and privilege to have worked with Patrick and Rosie while we were all at Famous Players. His wisdom, kindness and positive outlook on everything he did was refreshing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rosie and all of Patrick's family. God bless and rest in peace

I’ve known Patrick and been friends with him for my entire adult life…what a character he was, with strong opinions on everything, a passion for life and family, a love of cars and clothes…he loved life and was larger than life at the same time. He was never prouder of anything than his loving family and his two daughters…a true family man, a loving husband, a loyal friend; he set a high bar for us all where it matters. Rest In Peace, Patrick, your love endures forever
