He danced to the beat of a different drummer, and the world was better for it.

Patrick Thomas Graham — known to everyone simply as Pat — was a force of nature on the ice and off it, a man whose fierce spirit, uncommon loyalty, and refusal to be ordinary left a mark on everyone who crossed his path. Born on May 25, 1961, in Toronto, Ontario, Pat grew up with a love for hockey that would carry him all the way to the National Hockey League. Playing left wing with a competitive edge and a heart full of determination, Pat was drafted 114th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1980 NHL Draft. Over three seasons from 1981 to 1984, he appeared in 103 NHL games with the Penguins and the Toronto Maple Leafs, earning the respect of teammates through his relentless work ethic and his willingness to compete fiercely every night. Those who played alongside him knew what they had — a player who, as his close friend Steve Ludzik once said, "danced to the beat of a different drummer." They were right. What few spectators saw was the price Pat paid to be on the ice. Chronic back pain plagued him throughout his career, so severe that on many nights he needed help simply tying his skates. He eventually underwent back surgery and, facing the difficult reality of his condition, made the courageous decision to step away from professional hockey and redirect his drive into a new calling. Pat enrolled at the University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology in 1988, and went on to graduate from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1992. His transformation from patient to healer was complete — and deeply personal, having been an advocate for chiropractic care since his junior hockey days with the Niagara Falls Flyers. He became the consulting chiropractor for the Toronto Blue Jays and in 2010 co-founded The Core Optimum Health Centre in the Greater Toronto Area, building a practice grounded in the same commitment he once gave to the game. Off the ice and outside the clinic, Pat was an accomplished scratch golfer, a dedicated coach with the Toronto Young Nats triple-A program, and above all, a devoted husband to Janet and loving father of three. Pat Graham passed away on June 4, 2026, at the age of 64. He leaves behind a life lived fully and fearlessly — athlete, healer, coach, friend, and family man.

Patrick Graham, just the mention of his name brings a smile to my face. We both have no idea why or for what reasons, but somewhere along our travels we adopted the nickname 'Baby' for each other. We caught some strange looks from onlookers who didn't get it. 'Baby, let's shoot some pool,' or 'baby, I'm in the high slot.' It was just not normal. Patty Graham was not normal, and he danced to the beat of a different drummer. He was also one great hockey player.
