Tribute to Oupa My heart is full of sorrow, but also full of gratitude, as I pay tribute to someone who truly changed my life — my friend, Oupa. Oupa wasn’t just a friend — he was a guide, a teacher, and a soul who brought beauty, joy, and meaning into the lives of everyone he touched. He taught me how to appreciate the finer things in life — how to see the world through the lens of art and jazz ,how to savour a good glass of wine, and most of all, how to live. Really live. He had a way of finding joy in the little things, of turning ordinary moments into something special. Whether we were walking through a gallery, sitting under the stars with a bottle of wine listening to jazz or simply talking about life, Oupa had this incredible gift of making every moment feel full and rich. Through him, I learned that life isn't just about rushing from one thing to the next. It's about slowing down, noticing beauty, embracing laughter, and celebrating love. He showed me — and so many of us — how to live with heart. Losing Oupa is a profound loss. But in the grief, I find comfort in the countless memories, in the lessons he shared, and in the love he so freely gave. His spirit lives on in all of us — in every piece of art , music and. nature that moves us, in every glass raised in good company, and in every moment we choose to live fully and with joy. Rest well, my friend. Thank you for your friendship, your wisdom, your laughter, and your love. You will always be with me. John Segoati

Dr Moruti Collen Oupa Morare was many thing to many people... Grandson, son, brother, nephew, cousin, physician, wine connoisseur, jazz aficionado, art curator, historian (with a biase towards religion and its peculiarities) , lover, husband (albeit with an x attached), father, grandpa. You can accuse the man of many things, Lord knows he had his flaws, but ordinary or boring are not words that you could put in the same sentence with his name. A consummate gentleman with a Don Juanic streak, he lived his life to wholeheartedly. If GO BIG OR GO HOME was a human being, his name would be Oupa To me, he was not just a cousin, he was my big brother, my sounding board. He was the guy who was ballsy enough to tell me the truth uncircumcised, especially when I didn't want to hear it. Oupa was that guy whose drop top gusheshe earned me quite a bit of street cred in my young days. I will forever be indebted to him for my broad world view and insatiable thirst for knowledge. As a deathcare professional, I have mastered the skill of emotional detachment. In order to give the bereaved family the best service, it is important to be empathetic but not emotional. Allowing them to grieve and being a pillar of support is your primary responsibility. This task is that much harder when the deceased is one of your own. In the years that I have spent so far in this industry, that difficulty has never been as pronounced to me as it has been over the last 12 days. As we laid your remains to rest today, I couldn't help but be grateful for the memories that you leave with us. The world will take on a slightly dull hue in your absence, but holding on to those memories will surely offer respite as we navigate the grief. Robala ka kgotso Tlou ya Madisanyane!!!

Morare, when your 2nd diagnosis came back positive;you said if the therapy doesn't work, that you wat to leave fast. But haai, this was too fast. But hey you lived hard & fast. You enjoyed the finer things in life; wine, art, women, people, art, music, animals, the list goes on.... You immersed fully in experiences. I mean, who underlines newspaper articles with a ruler & pen?lol You didn't bury the talent of a brain that God gave you. When Wass Art Galllery, later Becomo was vandalised during Covid19, I saw how shattered you were. You were such a passionate person...en lekker vol goeters ook. Worst with a phone. Your love for music will live on when I hear your favourite songs🎵 Rus saggies, altyd in my hart & herinneringe. Snowy Mattera

Collen Morare my brother the last time we met was at a Veterany where you had gone to fetch your cat that had had a surgery and I was there to drop off my dog that had to be laid down, what an awkward way to meet after a long time. The amount of love and honor you gave me at my lowest moment (you understood what it meant to lose a pet, a loyal friend) that was quite comforting, it stayed with me for the longest time. Your warm hug, respect and acknowledgement, what a gentleman you were and always have been. You called me Lorraine and I called you Collen Morare each time we met and we would laugh about it as it took us down memory lane at Mabuya High School where we used to compete for marks in Mr Mabiletsa's mathematics class. Hearing about your departure brought so much shock and sadness to my heart. The pain cut so deep it felt like I lost my own brother and that's exactly who you've always been. You lived your life unapologetically, to the fullest. What a colorful yet intriguing journey you had. You poured yourself out, the angels must be dancing to your rhythm as you ascend. What an honorable man you've been ntate. Robala kakhotso Morare the gentle giant. You've left an indelible mark in our hearts. May your family find comfort in the Lord. Zanele Luhabe
