Otis Ray Jones was a hard working man. He was employed at Braniff International Airways until the company itself did not exist. Ray loved music almost as much as he loved his wife, and God. He did not play for fame or fortune, but for the joy it brought. When he saw the crowd tapping and singing along he just lit up like shining star. His grin was so artless, and pure, that it was simply contagious.

He had endless patience and forgiveness for his family and friends. I tried to find a photo of just him. I couldn't. He was either taking the picture, or his life long love, Patsy Ruth Jones, was there by his side.  As she was at the very end, her loving arms holding him close. I see no reason for a photo of him alone. For he never was.

The earth lost an angel the day he died, but heaven gained the finest Texas fiddle player that ever walked God's green earth. With all the pain gone now his bowstrings must be on fire. He walks among the dear departed, and there are many there to greet him who have gone on before him. They know him by name, and wrap him in warm remembrance, for they loved him too.

On August the 25th, of 2021, the world lost the best man they never even knew. Otis Ray Jones, devoted husband, patriarch of a wonderful family, life-long fiddler, and deeply spiritual man of God, has gone on to clasp the hand of his maker. I see him in his Promised Land, fiddling eternity away in the Angelic orchestra, with a contagious smile that will light the vaults of Heaven until the end of time. He lived a great life, full of love, laughter, music, family, and friends. He was an honest man, never cussed, drank, or smoked. He said what he believed and you could believe he would do what he said. He never had a bad word for anyone, because his heart was so big, so full of love, patience, forgiveness, and joy. Faithful husband to his one true love, Patsy Ruth Jones, their marriage endured for 69 years, but their love will never end. Like the Rock of Gibraltar, he stood strong against the world, leading his life, and his family through the ever changing times. Unwavering in his faith he dedicated his life to God, his wife, his family, his job, his music, and fellowship. He will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. The world will never see his like again. He was without a doubt the best man I have ever known.
