My husband you were my world, there was no Feli without Sylveh. Putting what you meant to me in words would take a life time but I will make it as brief as I can. 40 years of being a wife and partner to a loving, caring, wonderful, strong and God fearing man. Life could not have being better than what I had with you Darling ‘Dee', you supported and encouraged me to reach my peak in all me endeavors academically and in my career. You were my biggest supporter, always celebrated all my achievements and feats. It was the best for me all the time and nothing less. We had our problems like every family but making up and resolving our issues were always magical and made us closer. Dee you are gone, and all that's left are memories, memories that lead me to silence and tears. I miss your arms that hold me tight, your comforting and wise conversations, your snore that fills our room at night. I know I shouldn't be so awful, for you left me the memories and treasures to cherish. You were the love of my life, understood and taught me what the true meaning of marriage, family and protecting your loved one. - You were the love of my life - Wonderful father to our kids - You always protected your immediate and extended family, putting everyone before yourself. - You loved God and the Church dearly - A man full of live, loved his friends dearly - A man who was a superstar in his own right than most of us. My love you were strong till the end, like you have always been for us all. You have left an enormous void that will be difficult to be fill. I will miss you dearly my husband, I close my eyes to visualize your face when you were here. I cherish the times we spent together, and they are locked inside my heart as long as I have those memories we will never be apart. Even though we cannot speak anymore, my voice is always there, because every night before I sleep, I have you in my prayer. Dee, you thought us to be a praying family and we will pray for you. You will always live in the hearts of our children, siblings, and I. May your gently soul rest in the bosom of God Almighty. Amen Your wife and bestfriend Dr (Mrs) Felicia I. Egbase ABAH MEH Abah Meh. That was how our conversations started. Abah Meh (Father of Mine) and he would reply my daughter how are you. It is with deep sadness, hurt and tears in my eyes that I write this tribute trying to understand the mysteries of Life and how God determines the end of Man's existence on Earth. I am at loss as to where to start because to me you were larger than life, a charismatic leader. As a husband and father, you were second to none on this earth; a son and brother, you were a unifier, cared and loved without limitations; as a friend and colleague you were loyal and dedicated. As a Christian, you were a true believer, dedicated to the service of God till the end (I was in awe to hear that a few hours before you left this realm you were still attending to the affairs of the Church). Abah Meh, my mentor (smiling now), my doting father. He loved his family so much and never missed an opportunity to celebrate us. Our father was pragmatic and practical in his approach to issues. As a little girl I could never understand your high handedness and dogmatic approach to life but I recall several years later as a young lady starting out how I kept thanking you for not succumbing to our whims and emotional blackmails, telling you that the values that we thought were high handed were now our guiding principles. These values were numerous but confidence, integrity and contentment are my most treasured. I recall the advent of free to air vs. cable services in Nigeria and we bickered and grumbled why he would not get us the Cable network. His response was simple. This is what I can afford, if you prefer that of your friend go to their house and let their Mum and Dad be your new parents. That statement has stuck with me ever since. My father believed no success was too small, be proud of it, be content and build on it. While he was patient and an ardent listeners he would not condone laziness and insolence. He would give you the bitter end of his tongue and if necessary issue ultimatums and I am yet see anyone who did not comply and did not succeed or who disregarded and succeeded. Abah meh was a man of great virtues and it resonated in every task or responsibility he undertook. He was principled, a man of integrity, courageous and confident in his ideals. He was an astute businessman yet very fair in his dealings. Above all my Father loved God and I make bold to say he departed Earth in the service of God. He ensured all his dependants had a strong relationship with God. My Father, there is so much to say about you, I will miss your stern face that created the facade that you were unapproachable yet you were full of joy and laughter, a joker and gist companion. I will miss your warm embrace, disturbing your precious sleep and stifling you with my love. Before I forget Osamah and Ofure told Godwin that you must come and visit after the lockdown. Alas it is not to be as God Almighty in His divinity decided otherwise. I have told them that you are with the Angels in heaven and that you danced like you never did here. It hurts so much Abah Meh that you transitioned so suddenly. As I write these words it's still surreal. This is not good bye as I cannot bring myself to say it. You remain alive in my heart. You know I love you so much. Say hi to my Grand Dads, Grand Mas, Aunty Felicia and all our loved one who went ahead of you. My father, rest well. Your Daughter Omomene Obanor My father! My father! My father! Although, it was not your idea to invite this grief to becloud me, as I could remember you holding my hand on that hospital bed and telling me that nothing will happen to you but here I am, in shock of your demise. This feels like a pilgrimage of loss! If there is a scale to measure the weight of the one lost, no store in the universe can have such scale to measure your germane qualities and contributions to my existence. And if there should be such scale, it can only show the eloquent account of my devastation, as your contributions to my living cannot be contained in any book of the world. You were a father to many and friend to all, regardless! U'u ii ji Aah gui na. (Death is impervious to appeal.) You have sojourned to be perfect in oneness with God. To the mortal, you are dead, but you are in the uppermost state of consciousness. If I must say, you did as you could in making sure that all the businesses of this world that makes a man, you did them all. You would be remembered in this life time by all and sundry that knew you and shall be consumed by history by generations to come in our lineage and beyond. Hence, I will keep you like lamp that keeps burning, even though you have burnt part of your incense. Your son Dr Egbase Isikhuemen Martins A simple tribute can in no way do justice to the 37 years of being your son. Daddy, you were the greatest of all time. It draws tears to know that we did not have more time with you physically. You brought us up as a closely knit family (nuclear and extended) and showed us how important a family is. Just watching how you handled each and every one of your siblings was in itself humbling and you did it with such effortlessness and calm to the very end. This attribute of yours will always be a guiding light for us as a family. Good morning Daddy, Good afternoon daddy, Good evening Daddy and Daddy Obo-sian (Welcome), Daddy how you dey. These are the words I will never have the pleasure or joy of saying again to you in person or over the phone. Listening to your stern but subtle words of wisdom guiding me through life. Sharing in a family you built instilling selflessness, integrity, Godliness, love, patience, forgiveness, understanding, an ample sense of self-worth, discipline just to mention a few, are qualities we carry in our hearts and mind. You were a gem of a person and your call to glory is something I may never understand but I believe in God's will for all of us. God had to take you away from us at a time he best thought you were at your holiest. I have no doubt that you are with him in glory and now we have a direct connection to God through you. Words cannot explain why you left us with this irreplaceable and unimaginable void but we are not going to dwell on this demise but rather celebrate the life you lived and the people's lives you so impacted on your journey on earth. The endless devotion to God work and raising your family according is overwhelming. Remembering our drives and walks to church for catechism classes, our first holy communion, our induction as mass servers, our week day masses, our never missed Sunday masses, your position as a chairperson of the church community, overseeing the building of the parish priest house from start to finish, your induction into the knight order of St. John International to your position as the Nobel Brigadier General of KSJI (Your last service to God). Daddy you lifted the bar so high that the mere thought of scaling the bar is mortifying. But like you always said, nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Our mind is set Daddy. You never failed to tell us how proud you were of all your children, I take comfort in the fact that you saw us grow from been your ward to been independent with our families. You never failed to visit us ever year for 10 years while living abroad. My friends would also say how great my dad is. I would smile and say to them, my father is not a proxy person, he had to have a visual image of how his children were doing coupled with his love for each and every one of us. He would never let me bear the cost of planning a trip to visit him in Nigeria, He would also say ‘'don't worry my son, mum and I will be coming over''. He was a selfless person. You visited my family and I in June 2019, not knowing this would be our last physical interaction. I will miss you dearly Dad, I will miss our long drives with those stories of wisdom and jokes. Daddy, again words cannot do justice to the experiences we shared with you. Mum is devastated with your exit but be rest assured, she is not alone and never will. I believe that you will always be there with her. We will continue to be there for her. I pray that God in his infinite mercy, grant you forgiveness of sins and receive you into his eternal glory. Rest in peace Daddy till we meet again. I LOVE YOU DADDY. Your Son Oseghale Jude Egbase To the world you were Sir Sylvester Isidahomen Egbase, husband, father, brother, and friend but to me you were all; a super hero, my "Superman". Daddy you were always strong and fought to protect both family and friends till the end. Not a day goes by without mentioning your name or referring to you in my conversation with friends and acquaintances. That earned me the name "daddy's girl". I always ran to you for comfort when things are too difficult and tough to deal with; and you were always right there to do what you do best - wisdom and compassion. You instilled so many values in us and it is already paying off. Daddy, you thought us to always value both nuclear and extended family. You taught us to always trust in God and never question him no matter the circumstances and on this note I will not question God why he took you from us so suddenly. He definitely has a reason for that. You were a contented man and always monitored us to ensure we weren't living above our means. You set very high standard in all aspect of your life and filling this void you have left will be difficult to fill but trusting God we will also live the kind of quality life you lived. We will ensure we take very good care of your soulmate, wife and our mother. I miss so much already and I am trusting God to give us the strength to bear this loss. I will continue to pray for your soul. Rest In Peace Daddy I love you very much. Your Daughter Ofure Akhere-Ugbesia The Lord Almighty God had another Angel in Heaven as my senior Brother Sylve life was snatched by COVID. I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. Your words will continue to console us "THAT NO ONE LEAVES THIS WORLD ALIVE" Brother EGBASE CHRISTOPHER EHIZELE ESQ ADIEU BIG BROTHER SYLVE. THIS HURTS! So shocking, too soon!!! It has left a sting of pain. Who Can fill this void? Undone work, we may never do. Our shared thoughts, you knew. When you returned from the United Kingdom in the 70s, your place of work was informed by proximity to the family and our interest. You visited us every weekend in UROMI while you worked in Benin. You were keen on our studies and straightened us out. Though Papa was a disciplinarian, you did more. Thank you so much Big Brother for all you did. Your impact was far reaching. You were always there, standing tall in our times of need. Yes, this hurts, it hurts the more. There is so much you left behind. The Sky is night; after the night comes the morning. Peace has fallen on you, big brother. Still I miss you, my dear big brother. Sleep on big brother. Sweet Sleep, till we meet to part no more in the resurrection light. ADIEU BIG BROTHER SYLVE Sister VICTORIA IZIENGBE ONOJIMESIKE EGBASE,mni *Sir Sylvester Isidahomen Egbase(KSJI): A Heir, A Knight and Legacy Builder.* Born a heir, you exemplified discipline, to sustain our family legacy and the Catholic Faith. I am consoled the Lord called you in peace in the watchful eyes of your family. You lived achieving greatness in calmness and simplicity. Your death did not come with complications; we spoke few hours prior. You smiled and waved, and we were looking forward to having you back with us soon. We did not understand the Lord, as you just left to be with Him. As you stayed beside our mother and father in their last moments, so the Lord also visited you in peace to pass it on. In the battle of life, you died a Knight. You "fought the good fight, and finished the race, and kept the faith. "May you now be crowned with the prize - the crown of righteousness, which the Lord (Jesus Christ) the righteous Judge, promised will give to all like you who longed for his appearing. Amen. *Your Brother, Andrew Oyaletor Egbase & Family* Gone so soon but not forgotten. Big bro, fondly called daddy. He served God until he passed on to Glory on the 30th of June 2020. He was a father to all and a great philanthropist. He took my children to school and picked them after close of school's session and attended their school's functions ie open day, inter house sport, Parents and visiting days on our behalf and even bought cake for them on their birthdays while in School A week after my husband's death, he insisted and followed me to Irrua to visit my in-laws not knowing that will be last brotherly social outing. Words alone cannot express how you are greatly missed. Adieu big bro. May Almighty God forgive you your sins and accept your soul. Amen Sister Mrs Negbenebor Bibiana Brother Sylve, as you were fondly called by everyone of us, you were more to us as a father than a brother. We shared so much happiness, love and great relationships, and to say how much we miss you; We all wish with all our hearts you were still here with us doing what you know best, keeping the family bonded, and that we could still share the laughter that always used to be. I know we'll meet again when Christ returns, and continue those very special times we shared as family. GOOD NIGHT, GOOD NIGHT, GOOD NIGHT Bro Sylve Hymn: Until we meet again before His throne, Clothed in the spotless robe He gives His own, Until we know even as we are known- Good night! Good night! Good night! David and Clementine Osah Canada On the shoulders of this "giant of a man", the great S.P.E Egbase vision and lineage thrived. Brother Sylve saddled the "OMODION"- responsibility and became the Iroko/pillar of the Egbase family. Our neighbour from Uromi, classified Brother Sylve as the perfect first son. On my brother's watch, there was no way an Egbase was going to lag behind. He lived a heroic life with armour of strength, wisdom, responsibility, humility and integrity. He exemplified profound love, as a devoted Son, Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grand-Father and Friends. My brother never eluded the burden of being the pillar of the family; rather he saddled it, as a responsibility with selfless dedication. His devotion to the entire Egbase family was paramount at all times. My admiration and appreciation for his exemplary life, discipline-core values, endurance, patience, virtuous and religious faith, runs into chapters. Only a biography can truly exhibit a complete tribute for my brother Sylve. Two days before he passed to glory, I called brother Sylve to thank him, for taking up, yet another tasking burden for the family. He expressed a heartfelt appreciation for our discussion. I had no ideal, and I could not have imagined that conversation to be our last. His word of appreciation continues to ring in my ears and memory, a feeling I will continue to cherish. A goodbye is strange to say to brother Sylve. It feels like this unusual scenario will pass, and he will be back with us. While we endure the sadness of his passing to glory, I am comforted by the fact that, he is now an angel in the heavenly plane for eternity. Brother Sylve, will continue his care, by bringing forth good tidings and blessings to his loved ones (us) on earth. I will miss my dear brother Sylve, is an understatement. His life will continue to glow among us. Thanks you dear brother for been you. Rest in peace, my dear brother. Brother GERALD O. EGBASE, ESQ Still in shock! You had a very individualized relationship with everyone and had no hesitation about speaking your mind no matter the topic. It is also a privilege to have known you and all that you stand for. We pray God grant you eternal rest and may we continue to be guided positively always by your principles. We will hold on dearly to your beloved wife, Lady Felicia Egbase. We know we will continue to hear your voice in Omo, Isi, Ose and Ofure. Baba, Mama and brother Augustine will be glad to see you. Thank you for being there whenever you were needed to play a fatherly role and lend a fatherly advice in times of difficulties. You showed up in times of sorrow to mourn and was definitely present in times of happiness to celebrate and share laughter. You lived a life larger than life and was rightfully admired by friends, family and people looking in from afar. We will miss you much but are comforted by the fact that the life you lived is an enviable one. You will be greatly missed by family and community. Rest on, and rest well. Brother Felix and Ese-Ose Egbase. My dearest brother Sylvester is a Principled Man, who loved his family and was kind and compassionate to others in a non-judgemental way. You understood life and made the most of very second and lived a humbled Christian life. Your death was so sudden and unexpected; we had plans to celebrate in the UK next year. Who would have thought it would be this way? We hoped we had more time but God has the final say. You're leaving us with a feeling of emptiness and sadness, it is an overwhelming grieve. Brother Sylvester, written words do not do you justice to what you mean to us, to the whole family, is it your sense of celebrations and family, or the warm advice that you give to others, you accepted everyone for the flaws they had and guided others through tough times. Your immense presence always comforted us. You portrayed so much understanding, knowledge and wisdom and imparted this on others. I remember our trips; you were always the best companion who was easy going, a good listener with a capacity to enjoy life and to make time for everyone. To you my younger ones I say ‘the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Amen. Isaiah 51:11' In-Law Barr Mrs Lola Egbase I feel honoured and privileged to have one of your daughters to love and to hold. You always loved me unconditionally, discussed politics and analysed football like my own father and a true friend. Resolute and committed in all your decisions, you ensured you followed them through to positive end. You were the best father in - law anyone could dream of having. When I heard you had slept, I could hear the mild sound of wings as you soared. As a Believer which you were as well, our prayer is that you continue to rest in peace until that day of the Lord. In-Law Godwin Osadolor Obanor. Farewell to a great in law Oh "my great in-law" we rejoice for a life well spent, just like Barnabas in the Bible you were a great leader, you loved God, you were an achiever and an encourager. "family" meant a lot to you and you always looked for how to bring them together. We cherish the moments you would visit our home and the personal friendly relationship we built quickly. You touched so many lives with your kindness, caring, godly, loving and peaceful nature. Thank you for raising the best son in-law who loves and cherishes our daughter, his kids and our entire family. You were all we asked for in an in-law. You will surely be missed. On behalf of the entire Danmagaji family we wish to thank the Almighty God for giving us such a wonderful in-law, may he give you perfect peace till we meet again. Adieu Adieu my great in-law. In-Law On behalf of the entire Danmagaji family Birthed from the southern part of Kaduna state, I came into the Egbase family afraid and nervous not knowing what to expect, but daddy gently eased my mind, he welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like a member of the family. From that moment, I grew to love him and considered him a father. Daddy was extremely intelligent, there was no topic or subject you raised with him that he didn't have something to say, he was focused, took care of everybody's problems like it was his, he knew how to make you feel beautiful and special, in-short, at some point he said his family had to visit mine to add to my pride price, he said it as it was and very principled, he loved God and loved family. He was not just an amazing father to my husband, brother in-law and sister in-laws but he was an incredible role model to all his grandchildren. I can't express adequately how precious my husband is to me. It is a thing of joy that his dads loving and gracious manner lives in him and I am the greatest benefactor of this treasure. I've been blessed to have him in my life for 8 years. We have so many happy and joyful memories with him that we will treasure for the years to come. We were lucky to have spent time with him when we travelled to India, our boat cruise to and from Ireland and the UK. 2019 ended very well for us after he threw a Christmas party, to welcome us to Benin after a long time. Where will I see you to make your favourite seafood Okra? who will call me joy Joy Joy? Oh lord the vacuum daddy created will be too difficult to be replaced, losing him has left us feeling overwhelmed, we are in shock and in pain but we believe we will rejoice with you one day. Continue to Rest In Peace Daddy Your Daughter-in-law, Joy Egbase. Daddy, the news of your passing shattered us beyond words. But we are consoled with the fact that you lived a good life; worthy of emulation. You never relented in giving your wise counsel when we sought for it. Goodbyes are hard to say Pops. Aideu, till we meet at Heaven's gate. Your Son-in-law Osobase Akhere-Ugbesia Sir Isidahomen Sylvester Egbase was a great human being who was a loving and a warm person. I found an elder brother in him and I am glad he was part of our lives. He will stay in our hearts and memories for the rest of our lives. I pray God grants strength to his next of kin and family members to bear the loss. I pray God grant my brother's soul peace. Rest in Peace dear brother. In-Law Rukmini Chandran Mysore. INDIA. To the man who went from being my Dad to my Daddy. My father-in-law. Father in laws are so under-rated. We don't often come across posts celebrating them. Although we put them conveniently in the ‘Father' section, the process of bringing them there is a journey. That's how it was for me. I take time to warm up to people. I'm cautious and tend to observe and process their personalities. When it comes to your own father, you know the ropes. You know what to say when and how to say it. They raised you and have seen you through so many triumphs and downfalls. They are known territory. You walk - skip and jump carefree. With father-in-laws, it's unknown territory at the start and that's how it started off for me when I married into the Egbase family. He was from an entirely different culture and knew how to speak to people of different age groups and personalities. He was brutally honest when it was required but extremely comforting when you needed it the most. There was a balance. He seemed like the person who held the key to this whole box of wisdom passed down by the ancestors and he made sure the box was always kept open. After I married, I remember calling him uncle for the first time and he said to me- you can call me daddy. Since I was so used to calling my father daddy with a certain tone for more than 30 years,I couldn't say it any other way nor could I use the same tone on another person. So I chose to be honest and called my father-in-law,Dad. He went with it and it didn't seem to bother him. Every time we spoke on the phone, dad asked after my parents and my siblings. He genuinely wanted to make sure everyone was doing alright. He had a natural instinct to protect and he didn't hesitate to show it. When I lost my daddy in 2017 it was devastating. I had to learn to cope and find ways to distract myself. Losing a father is something else. You can never articulate it enough to explain or write it because that is how fathers are. They are silent spectators and their actions speak loudest. Most times noticed after they are long gone. After I lost my father, I noticed my dynamics with my father-in-law changed. It was a little more informal and I was speaking to him like I would speak to my daddy. Probably it was my way of coping with a loss? Yes. I eagerly looked forward to his yearly visits. I took several pictures of his with the girls, dished him food and would sit down and ask him how he was doing, his health, business and politics. And then, I started to call him daddy, with the same tone. He smiled. It occurred to me that he had been observing all this while. He seemed to have understood and gone with the flow when I had called him dad. Every video or picture I took of us four, I sent it to him on WhatsApp and he replied back with a compliment or a funny comment. My siblings chatted with him on WhatsApp too. He was so open to the younger generation. He observed- processed and spoke with wisdom. He was spiritual and put God and God's work first. He put everybody's struggles ahead of his and was the glue that held us all and the bearings that held the magnificent chandelier together. Now that the bearings have SUDDENLY melted away, the chandelier has crashed without prior notice and the pieces have broken and spread across. I'm one of those pieces that has seeped through that tiny crack where no hand or brush can reach. I have lost a daddy all over again. I will always hold close to my heart the wisdom he shared and words of encouragement he spoke and of course the generosity! I'm glad I thanked him for all his endless support when he visited us last year. He smiled and said, "My dear, don't worry all shall be well". When faced with life's difficulties he would say "My dear, don't worry. This is just temporary ". I will miss that baritone voice that greeted me with - "Leena, how are you my daughter ". What an honour it has been knowing my daddy of few years. The journey bringing him to my ‘father' section has been emotional and full of gratitude. When I see in-laws who have married into the Egbase family weep, I am able to empathise with them. I understand that they have shared a unique bond with daddy and have had their process too of bringing him into the ‘father' section. Father-in-laws, they have a purpose you know. They show you a world through a fresh pair of eyes, when you are ready to hold their hand. They don't replace your father instead, they step in when they see you looking for one. May your soul Rest In Peace Daddy. God bless your soul ️ Daughter-In-Law Leena Chandran Egbase Uncle Sylvester was the first father-in-law to the Chandran family and it has been an honor to have known him. He was strong, wise, caring and always had time for a quick update about family. During our visit to Nigeria, we were particularly impressed by his hospitality & life's work. Rarely do you find people who are equally committed to their community as they are to their families. Uncle was one such rare gem. A Knight who felt wholly responsible for his brotherhood. He leaves behind an unforgettable legacy & shoes that will take lifetimes to fill. He is missed and will forever be admired. In-Law Tomonica Chandran I was a naive adolescent boy when I met you...I remember the drive from home to your ancestral village... You questioned me about me about my culture my country my future and my interests.. questions that nobody had asked me before...you also schooled on how important it was to know these things...it was a turning point for me... every time I make a right decision... Your advices were always the base for it...I have no words to thank you enough...You are more dear to god than the rest of us...Thank you uncle... We miss you immensely! " In-Law Suhas Chandran I remember my uncle Sylvester as a happy fun kind man. He sometimes looked serious but then a smile would burst on his face. He ALWAYS made time for me and made the effort to come to every big event in my adult life. A man of integrity and strength. I know he will be easily received into the kingdom of heaven. I'll miss him terribly. But thank god that he was my uncle. I keep my family in my prayers every night. Neice Dr Lizzie Egbase We are all devastated too hear of his passing and know that he was deeply loved and will be missed. At times of sadness we look to God for comfort and guidance Psalm 23 "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." may we all take confront in knowing that his should now knows everlasting life Nephew Dr Emmanuel + Dr Emma Egbase Seeing as I never knew my grandfather, in a way uncle Sylvester filled that role in my life. My mom would always tell me about all the ways he would take on the role of a father figure in her life, so when I first got to know him a few years back it felt as if I was meeting my grandfather. I always referred to him as "Uncle," being my mother's brother and all, but even in the limited interactions I did have with him, it felt as if "uncle" didn't do him justice. The way he would always speak to me and my brothers always gave off a warm, fatherly kind of vibe. He always asked me how I was holding together in my studies, career and other things I was doing, and he always took the opportunity to give me good a word of encouragement. Daddy, you made a great impact in my life, right from the first time I came to know you I've always had this urge to make you proud, and at this point the urge just got more intense. Your lovely daughter as you fondly call me is super proud of you. You made us grow in the ways of the Lord, especially with the Catholic Faith. You live an exemplary life, and indeed you lived a fulfilled life. Big Daddy it hurts my heart that I will see you no more, especially on Sundays at the 8:30am mass, as we wait to greet you, and you ask of our well-being, Big Daddy you served as a father figure to us. Who will come home to pay us a visit at Uromi, every Friday, who will encourage us, that everything will be fine? Who are we going to seek advice from? Neices Iyabo Balogun, Onowan and Omonigho Egbase. It is really tough writing this tribute from self-Isolation, as expected of his closest friend, who stayed and discussed with him few hours to his exit. This is my saddest writeup ever, a tribute on the death of a part of me. Sylve was a friend closer than a brother. My first meeting with him was in 1958, 62 years ago. He walked into my class, Primary 2A at St. Anthony Catholic school, now Okpujie, Uromi.; came straight to me and asked to share my seat. Very smartly dressed, a new student just admitted from Jos, Northern Nigeria, where he was born just two months senior to me. Very quickly, there was a kind of magnetism between us. That was the beginning of a friendship that grew into brotherhood. I am proud and blessed to share his life with him. We were best of friends and class mates in the primary school, secondary school, and university. In fact we decided together what schools to attend and courses to study. His family house is opposite mine; so we lived together over the last 62 years both at school and at home. All our major decisions on earth we took together even the decision to marry; when to, how and who to marry. We shared everything,... thoughts, plans, ideas and ideals. And have been together in our struggles and triumphs, sorrows and celebrations. In candid reflection and assessment of our life, Sylve and I have been most grateful to God for all our life accomplishments. I can therefore say, very confidently, that my friend goes home feeling fully fulfilled in life. Proud of his Children, Omo, Isi, Ose and Ofure., his dear wife, Felly, and all other life accomplishments. Sylve was the best thing that happened to me in life. How can I say goodbye to such a fellow? But goodbye, I must say tonight to my beloved friend and brother for so many years, until we meet again, in the bosom of our Lord. Good night. Hon. Dr. Michael Ehizokhale Former Commissioner of Health, Edo Noble, Brigadier General Sylvester Isidahomen Egbase attended Esan Grammar School Uromi from the year 1964 to 1968. This was where his solid foundation was built. We are happy and proud to be his classmates, juniors and seniors at school. As an old boy, Sylvester has been most distinguished and accomplished. We all loved and respected him for his well thought out contributions, gift of oratory and dignified mannerism at meetings. He was a great pillar of support for the association. He offered us the free use of his Macquee event centre for all our social functions all through its years. In addition he made huge financial contributions in support of infrastructural development of our Alma mater. Yes, we are proud and can certainly say he is one of the finest that had passed through the school. We are confident that Esan grammar school equally passed through him. He was prepared mentally, physically and spiritually to face the world thereafter. No wonder the lofty heights he attained on earth. Disciplined, religious, kind hearted, public spirited and service oriented. Sylvester was our school Labour/discipline prefect. He was trained to tame lions and oppressors in our society. There was a bully in our class, by name Obieke.. a well built giant of a kind, rough and rugged. He was fond of bullying us, especially the smaller ones. He was twice the size of Sylvester. One day, Obieke messed with the wrong person. He looked for Sylvester's trouble. Sylve attacked him fiercely and to the pleasant surprise of all of us, the large Obieke was on the floor, humbled and humiliated. That was the day we nicknamed him ATTILA...after Attila the Hun of ancient history. Sylvester could be very respectful but fears nobody. He is very strong on principles and hate injustice or oppression of any kind. He fights fearlessly for anything he believes in. And once started, no going back. The academic brilliance of General Egbase is worthy of mention. Passed out from Esan grammar school and Immaculate conception Catholic school in 1968 and 1970 respectively in flying colours. In the university of Ibadan, he was a distinguished winner of the famous German scholarship for academic excellence. This was a scholarship he never applied for. Passed out of UI with high honours in the 2nd class, upper division. Proceeded to the UK for a master's degree in Polymer Technology. He got sponsorship for only one master's degree but got two within the period, as he bagged yet another MBA degree from Edinburgh before returning home. Back home, he worked variously with the Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, Iyanomo, Nigeria Rubber board, Benin city, and very briefly with the Rubber marketing board. In all these organizations he was most dignified and professional in his services. All these were before he moved to the next level of business and public responsibilities. He was MD of Sylbase Nig. Ltd. In service to his people, General Egbase was the Resident Electoral Commissioner, for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He served as INEC Commissioner in Ondo state, Rivers State and Kastina State, respectively. He served honestly and honourably to the admiration of all of us the oldboys. General Egbase was a responsible and reputable community leader. He was a past president of Uromi people's movement. His people loved him. At the Advent of Covid 19, he went home to his/our community and single handedly distributed face masks, sanitizers, cash and other palliatives among them. He loved his people too and didn't want any of them to fall victim of the dreaded novel pandemic. But, what an irony that he fell victim of the monster virus, in the course of his religious duty. To our pride, he was the grand President, Knight of Saint John international, Benin Grand commandry. A Brigadier general in the Lord's army. He had fought battles and won laurels and harvested souls for the lord; he had set standards and left indelible marks on the sand of history and now he has gone to rest in the Lord. Great general, we are proud of you. Esan Grammar school is proud of you. Uromi, Esan and Edo state are proud of you. We salute you our dear friend, and brother, Sylo. May your soul rest in peace. Good night. Hon. Dr. Michael Ehizokhale National President - Esan Grammar School Old Boys Association. I was deeply shocked to learn of the passing of a great uncle and dad, a limb had fallen from a fruitful family tree, leaving a void extremely difficult to fill. A man of faith has no attitude of reward and Dad was an embodiment of that. Daddy as He is generally called will selflessly share whatever he could to help others and consistently lifts up those around Him with a kind word and by this measure, He was exemplary I am most grateful and comforted knowing how much He positively affected my life and that of others The fact that He's no longer with us physically will cause pain but He will never be forgotten and His good deeds will remain a footprint in the sand of time.
