In Loving Memory of Nicholas David Kahlie

Nicholas Kahlie, born on December 12, 1970, left us on May 27, 2023, at the age of 52. He was a cherished son, brother, father, uncle, coach, and friend, whose impact on the lives he touched will forever resonate.

A Gahr High School wrestler, Nick brought determination and dedication to every challenge he faced. His passion for sports continued as he pursued higher education, culminating in his graduation from UCLA.

Nick’s commitment to education led him to become a teacher, where he shared his knowledge and passion with countless students, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. He was not only a teacher but also a father figure to Starr, embodying the qualities of a true mentor and dad.

Off the mat and outside the classroom, Nick was an avid beach volleyball player who thrived on the camaraderie and competition the sport provided. He loved his beach friends and often missed being on the sand these past 8 years. He was also an avid reader, immersing himself in countless books and later enjoying the pleasure of listening to them.

Nick took great joy in watching his sister Starr excel in sports & school and was always her biggest supporter. He also took pride in spoiling his nieces and nephew when he got to see them. His penchant for humor and riddles brightened the lives of those around him, as he embraced the role of a jokester. He was often known as the "Swami" among his friends, a testament to his unique character.

Nick is survived by his mother, Jeannette, his father, John Kahlie, his brother, John Kahlie Jr., his sister, Starr Meehan (husband Ryan), his nieces, Christina, Nova, Sky, and Ryder, as well as his nephew, Ryan.

Though Nick may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the lives he influenced. He will forever be remembered as a source of inspiration, love, laughter, and the treasured "Swami" to his friends.

"Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.”

Stay gold. We miss you, Nick.

Awe, the many memories I have of Nick and my boys Ricky and Alexi playing together. The cute look alike outfits that Grandma Nany would have them all wear, were so cute. The fondest memory is how I admired Nick for being such a good big brother to you Starr❤️
