“What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other?” --George Eliot

Mabry, Nancy Caroline Jaquette. Nan passed away surrounded by family and love on December 13, 2023. Nan was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Hazel Grace Richards Jaquette and Jean Paul Jaquette, Sr. At age 9, she moved with her family to Arlington, Virginia. She was a Girl Scout and attended Washington-Lee High School where she met her high school sweetheart and eventual husband, David R. Mabry. Nan went to the University of Michigan, earning a B.S. degree in Design and becoming a life-long member of Alpha Phi sorority. Nan was an elementary school teacher for several years and a volunteer Laubach Literacy tutor for adults. In addition to those activities while being a Marine officer’s wife, she also raised three children: Jo Beth (Loni Yatsko), Dana Lynn (Larry Leonard), and Jon David (Ben Morris). A talented and avid sewer, quilter, and crafter, she ran a consignment craft shop in Old Town Occoquan, Virginia, The Cinnamon Cellar, before becoming a travel agent and later the Director of Volunteer Services at Alexandria Hospital for more than a decade. Nan and her husband retired to Lake Anna, Virginia, where they enjoyed friends in the community, the beautiful views from their home, and some wonderful visits from and travel with family and dear friends, especially her close circle fondly known as “The Old Brawds.”

Nan is survived by her children, her grandchildren: Ryan, Anthony (Valentina), Joseph, Steven (Taylor), Beatrice, and Everett; and her great-grandchildren, Paige, Caroline, and Hayes; her brother-in-law Richard Mabry and his wife Susan, her sister-in-law Edith Mabry, wife of Dave's late brother Joe, as well as her nephews, Jim Jaquette of Florida, Mark Mabry, Richard Mabry, and David B. Mabry, and nieces Wendy Mabry Largent and Judy Mabry Ramey.

We are grateful for the compassion and friendship of Sandra Pearson and the care of the staff of The Villa at Suffield Meadows in Warrenton, Virginia, as well as the wonderful team at Capital Caring Hospice.

Nan reunited with Dave at Quantico National Cemetery in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Heifer International (https://www.heifer.org), one of Nan’s favorite charities.

May Nan’s love of life, simple beauty, service to others, and togetherness inspire gratitude for all that’s good, the sharing of joy, and the making of memories.

Dave’s brother Dick and I are very grateful to have been a part of Nan & Dave’s lives ever since high school. The brothers both had military careers, and we met at various duty stations, then after retirement we shared frequent vacations at Hilton Head, SC along with older brother Joe and Edith. Nan was talented, gregarious and fun loving. We have decades of memories of travels, dinners, laughs, fun and games, and we’ll miss them both.

How wonderful to see all the photos of Nan. I miss her so much when we visit Hilton Head...we had so much fun and so many memories. I am a craft person as well so she and i spent a LOT of time in fabric stores in Savannah. And I loved that she brought her sewing machine and some of her projects to share when we met up in HHI. IN the early days she was always able to talk her way into touring the model homes being built with the best, most believable stories so we could all admire the decor and find ideas to take away. I am so very glad to have had the opportunity to get to know both Nan and Dave and be a part of the Canadian Gang as Dave always called us. Hugs to you all
