Nancy Gay Lakey

Nancy Gay Lakey was born in Metairie, La on June 14, 1957.   Our family moved to Houma, La in 1958.  We lived on a cross street ar the back of our subdivision. 

The large track of land across the street was purchased by a man who raised goats there.  The smell from the goat farm was not pleasant but we enjoyed watching the baby goats play.  Nancy spent many hours watching and playing with the goats.  When the owner was asked to raise a lamb whose mother had rejected him and was then rejected by the female goats he asked us to help bottle feed the lamb.  Nancy fed and played with that baby until it was old enough to survive on its own.  She missed it when the original owner took it back to his farm.  She had a kind heart and was willing to help others.

Our parents moved to Texas when Nancy was 12 years old.  I was in college and remained in LA.  We stayed in touch and had good times when I visited during holidays and summer vacations.

Nancy attended a dance in a neighboring town.  She went to the dance with her best friend and the friend's brother.  Her ex boyfriend also attended the dance.  She accepted a ride home with him. On the way home he lost control of the car and flipped over.  They were thrown from the car (no seat belt law in 1975).  She died at the scene.  He lived long enough to get to the hospital but died there.
