Mementos

Born Aug 24 1934 in Toledo Ohio, she was raised in a large blended family that included two sisters and a brother. Nancy moved here to her beloved town of Sisters in 1999. In 1969, Nancy, with her son David, packed up her car and drove cross country from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Dundee, Oregon to be closer to her brother, Jack Lehsten. While living in Newberg, Oregon, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses knocked on Nancy’s door, and thus began her lifelong love for Bible truth. On July 9th of 1972, she was baptized at a District Convention in Corvallis, OR. Nancy served as a full time pioneer for many years. She loved to study the Bible with students and spread the same good news of God’s Kingdom that Jesus taught his followers and that gave her so much joy. She was hospitable and dearly loved all of her fellow kingdom evangelizers to come for coffee breaks and tea time. Nancy held many memories of her service dear to her heart, close to the top was her efforts to assist with the renovation of our Kingdom Hall here in Sisters. Ever the Anglophile, she adored tea parties and hosted many elegant soirées for her friends and family. All who knew her will treasure their memories of her loving generosity, her wit, her laugh, her smile, her bouts of sass and orneriness, and her hugs most of all. She held many titles, Mother, Sister, Friend, and her personal favorite, Grammy. Recently she told her eldest Granddaughter, with unshakable confidence,” I will wake up in the paradise and I want you all to be there.”

This is one of my favorite pics…Nancy lit up when they took her arms and walked her out to the car. But really so many great memories of tea parties and coffee breaks. Can’t wait for the big welcome back tea party!

Grammy was a true constant in my life. From my earliest memories Grammy cared for me and provided unending support, love and adoration. Her’s was the very first phone number I knew how to dial. At the age of 4 in an agitated mood I declared to my mom I was going to call Grammy and she would come pick me up! Well she gave needed tough love when necessary too because to my shock she told me; “Honey I’m sorry but I am not going to come pick you up, now go be nice and take care of your mom.” Obviously she softened in her later years because I heard her on many occasions tell my own children after I gave them a “no,” “What was that you wanted? Grammy will get it for you.” She was just what we all needed. She was the best Grammy. - her Dacia-Dawn
