It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Nancy Ann Zagorc Frey, age 71, of Maumee, Ohio. A product of Cleveland area public schools, Nancy attended the University of Toledo receiving a bachelor's degree in education and two master's degrees. Nancy made her contribution to this world through her counseling and commitment to her community. She favored the work of food banks, the Cherry Street Mission, Juvenile Diabetes Research, and those searching for treatment of and a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Faced with multiple medical problems this past year, she met each challenge with optimism and determination. Her loves were many, chief among them kindness and caring for others. Nancy treasured the time with her children and felt gifted of her grandchildren, taking great care and pleasure in the role of grandmother. She loved to share her passion for reading and poetry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin A. and Shirley E. (Auer) Zagorc; and her brother, Michael A. Zagorc. She is survived by her husband, Francis C. Frey; her children, Jennifer (Tommy) Short, Matthew (Marci) Frey, Abigail (Justin) Paez, Madelyn (Christopher) Wilson, Catherine (Matthew) Morrison; and her grandchildren, Khayman, Beck, Madelyn, and Baylor Short, Frances, Zeke, and Alice Frey, Charisma, Finley, Justice, Sirius, and Kyrie Paez, Henry and Evelyn Wilson, and Fenner and Asa Morrison. She is also survived by her siblings, Sandra (Richard) Odrumsky and Timothy (Kacy) Zagorc; uncle, Rev. Francis D. Zagorc; and many treasured nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Nancy, or Annie as I knew her then, befriended me in the dorm during my freshman year and her sophomore year of college. We would stay up studying and laughing many nights becoming great friends, and continued as roommates for the next two years. We exchanged support and encouragement through many life challenges as marriage then children changed the texture of our lives. She was always full of support, encouragement, her special laughter, and zest for life.

Your Mom and Dad were our first friends in Toledo-lucky us! When we had our first get-together, your Mom had just completed a car repair class. We had a green VW, and it needed repair. Jack questioned whether or not she could fix it. We immediately learned what Nancy was made of, and I admired her from that day on for her intelligence, independence, compassion, and love of life! As I looked through albums full of photos (I'll bring them on July 2), I I could hear her infectious laugh. So many great memories: weekly dinners together-never at a restaurant; playing cards; weekly bike rides with Jenny, Matt, and Katie at Secor Metropark; apple cider making in the fall; celebrating new babies; birthday parties and on and on. Thinking of you all-how proud Nancy was of every one of you!

Coming of age sometimes I longed for an older sister. And then she was! A mentor, a friend, a travel companion, a partner in crime. Always my Nanc. Dressing up like two ladies to go out to dinner, and then at the movie theater Nanc insisting that our popcorn had extra butter so we practically had to wear bibs. Singing ‘Grandpa Froggy' at the campfire during those summer visits to Lake Champlain. I treasure so many memories.
