Nancy Doherty

In Loving Memory of Nancy Lujan Doherty (née Maria Nazarina Floroida Lujan) Nancy Lujan Doherty, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed peacefully into heaven on August 7, 2024, at the age of 81 after a long and courageous battle with illness. Born on May 19, 1943, to Amadeo and Lugardita Lujan in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, Nancy grew up in El Rancho with her cherished siblings. She pursued her passion for helping others by attending nursing school in Santa Fe. She later earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her dedication to nursing was evident throughout her life and career and she often said that working with the elderly was her vocation. Nancy spent many years raising her four children in Colorado, where she made lasting memories with her family.  She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, treasuring her role as a matriarch. In addition to her nursing career, Nancy was a talented homemaker, a skilled cook and cake decorator. Also, a faithful Christian, her kind heart shone brightly as she cared for her parents during their later years. Nancy found joy by tending to her garden while often wearing her favorite hat, creating a beautiful home and yard that stood out in her neighborhood. Independent, generous, and witty, she was known for her sweetness, spunk, and sense of humor. Her love for the Black Mesa landscape, babies, her loyal chihuahuas and her enjoyment of desserts (and of course, McDonald’s) were among her simple pleasures. Nancy's vibrant spirit and the warmth she brought into the lives of those she touched will never fade. Her well-lived life leaves a lasting legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marilyn (Dale) Tubbs and Nellie (Bill) Williams. She is survived by her spouse, Thomas Doherty; two brothers, Roger (Irene) Lujan and Ralph (Judy) Lujan; four children, Peter (Nancy) Doherty, Edna (David) Palmer, Imelda “Anna” (Jeff) Ruiz and Michael (Jean) Doherty; five grandchildren, Ashley, Meghan (Jack), Steven, Loren, and Keiran; two great-grandchildren Natasha and Baron and several loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:30 am at Rivera Family Funerals and Cremations, located at 417 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM, 87505. Interment and a luncheon will follow the service.
