Michael was one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. I truly admired how quickly his mind worked and how effortlessly he could turn a question into a thoughtful answer and great ideas in seconds. Sometimes, I honestly felt like he was living in a different sphere from the rest of us. I met Michael when I was a fresh graduate, making countless mistakes as I tried to find my way at work. But he was the person who reminded me to trust my own abilities. I even secretly printed out his long emails, amazed by how beautifully and logically he could express himself. He was also a generous person too. My first pair of TOMS was a gift from him, and I still remember it! His strength and discipline in confronting illness, and his courage and faith he had been holding, will always stay in my heart. Michael really inspired me in more ways than he probably ever knew.

I met Michael ten years ago. He was a remarkable mentor. Because he recruited Dr Lim, who later hired me, we were two generations apart at work. And as such, I loved teasingly calling Michael my 師公 / Master Yoda. From project trips when he would try to talk about work on the plane, only to find me fast asleep before take-off, to the years that followed, filled with deep conversations about faith and values, Michael was a constant source of wisdom and grace. He was endlessly hardworking, yet remarkably humble and down-to-earth. Stumbling upon old photos in our project group chat and seeing his playful smile reminded me how lucky I was to know him. I will miss him and remember him always.

Michael: you have always been a true friend and mentor (even though it sometimes took me a long time to digest your teachings). Your presence always adds life and intelligence to the room. I enjoyed immensely the time we spent together, especially the Shatin and China engagement trips. And above all, I treasure your friendship. What I admire most about you is your sincerity and your heart that is as big as the ocean. Rest in peace my friend and look forward to seeing you again.
