Had a wonderful lunch with Kyra to celebrate her 24th birthday last week. We walked down to Baker Park and visited Mike's memorial tree that we planted last year. Here is a picture of Kyra with her dad's tree.

A beautiful Red-Oak tree was planted in Baker Park today in honor of Mike's memory. We met the arborist who allowed us to include a small amount of Mike's cremains and Mike's memory stone in the soil with the planting. We plan to visit this tree often and remember Mike. We picked a Red-Oak because they are known to grow big and strong. Love you and miss you Mike!

On Saturday, July 10th we gathered in Frederick's Pinecliff Park to say goodbye to Mike Higgins with a celebration of life gathering. Some of the photos taken that day are shared below. Thank you to all who joined us, we certainly appreciate the support, and enjoyed the company while honoring Mike's memory that day.... And then on Monday July 12th, a small group of us gathered on the beach in Ocean City, MD and released Mike's ashes into the sea. This day was Mike's 46th birthday, and Emily's brother Chris (Reverend Tang) performed a religious service as we said goodbye to Mike. The memorial fund update shared at the gathering was that we are currently on the waiting list for the Ocean City boardwalk bench dedication program. Since the waiting list is 400 people long, we decided to purchase a stepping stone in Mike's memory under the Tree of Life at the Ocean City Convention Center. Please feel free to stop by and visit Mike's stone. We are also planting an oak tree in Baker Park in downtown Frederick, MD in honor of Mike. The tree will be planted this fall and we will spread some of Mike's cremains into the soil when the tree is placed into the ground. The weekend was long and emotional as we said farewell to our departed brother Michael Higgins, but it was very much needed and created some closure and a chance to move forward. We love you Mike, your spirit will always be in our hearts and minds, and your memory will live on forever, may you rest in peace.

We dedicated a brick in Mike's memory in downtown Frederick. You can find the brick on Church Street in front of the Historic Preservation Society building. Thank you Tom Trott for your help with this!

Beautiful words shared by Mike's sister (Jenny Higgins) at Mike's celebration of life. Thank you for sharing Jenny! Today we're here to say goodbye, to open a chapter, and celebrate, this life we lost and don't know why, a son, a brother, a husband, a father, an uncle too, whether friend or cousin, who he was, who he wasn't, his spirit, it had a way of reaching out and touching you, the biggest heart, a teddy bear, a real big guy, with so much care, a gentle giant, that's no surprise, it took a lifetime, to grow to size, he shared his smile, grinned ear to ear, just hid it well, when there were cameras near, the deepest soul, always searched for meaning, adventured crystals, ghosts and even dreaming, got lost in games, where he made some friends, some who shared the passion, some with a hand to lend, a brilliant mind, an intellect, and a stubborn one, no we won't forget, the quickest wit, oh he loved to google, he just had to know, and he had to prove it to you, because he loved his brain, and really so did we, he absolutely adored his children, so compassionately, he loved his mom, til his final breath, his siblings and family, this great legacy he left, he always made sure, to say I love you, he would not leave you, until he hugged you, you had to hug him back or he would make you, it makes me smile, to think of where he takes you, his heart so big, he seemed to know something bigger, such a special brother, who gave us one amazing picture, one amazing story, with some hiccup chapters, but he fought for family, with his cackle laughter, his joking nature, in such a simple way, we stand here together, to honor you today... Mike, when I think of you, when I remember when, when the memories flow, and all the tears get in, I get all choked up, it just takes my breath, all these lives you've touched, all the ones you've left, you were gone too soon, something we all know, it just hurts too much, to ever let you go, so we've gathered round, as a collective whole, to embrace your spirit, to embrace your soul, to spread your joy, and share your light, this ones for you...our mighty Mike.
