Resting in Paradise

Melanie Ann Jones Smith passed away peacefully in Okanogan on August 14th, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 5th, 1953 in Wenatchee and grew up in a wonderful home across from Turtle Rock. A country girl, she loved sharing memories of orchard life: shooting snakes, swimming in the Columbia, and driving her brother’s Mustang.

Melanie married her husband Irving Lee on November 14th, 1985 in South Lake Tahoe, then proceeded to build a life together in the Okanogan Valley where they shared 34 years of love and happiness. She loved her children fiercely, Eric and Irving A. She adored the people in her community and catching up with her numerous friends. In recent years she fulfilled dreams of travelling the world. She met new family and watched sunsets on paradise beaches.

Melanie had a beautiful spirit. She joins her parents, Ken and Faye Jones, and brother, Tim, in heaven. She lives on through her husband, children and their partners, her beloved granddaughter, Aurora, who held a special place in her heart, her brother Wayne and wife Cheryl, and many others whose lives she touched.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In the meantime, please help us share memories on this site. We will continue to add content and update information on this as we move toward an official celebration. Please be sure to check back periodically for updates. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Wellness Place or Knights of Columbus.

Thank you for your support. We love you all!

We enjoyed visiting with Melanie when passing through Okanagan. She was so warm and welcoming, she made us feel at home. She was a wonderful wife and mother and raised two incredible boys. Cait and myself are blessed to call Eric and Irv close friends. She is extremely proud of you both. Rest peacefully.

A rose will drop its petals and its beauty will fade but we will always remember the smell of a rose. You have dropped your petals and are gone from our sight but the sweet memory of you smile and twinkle of your eyes will always be with us. Memories never fade and with yours, they make us smile.

Melanie always had a smile on her face and was so warm and welcoming to everyone she interacted with. We will of course never forget the Thailand trip (especially Bob’s Booze Cruise) but the memory that stands out most was when we visited her in the hospital in December. Despite everything she was going through, she was her same old self for the 60 minutes we sat with her - smiling and laughing as we talked and reminisced. She was so excited for us to be expecting our first child in the coming month. At the time I was shocked, although in hindsight I shouldn’t have been, at her positivity and how she was lifting everyone else up. It should have been us lifting her up. I will always cherish that visit with Melanie, it was truly inspiring. We love you Smith family! Ryan and April
