Obituary
Megan Brianna Houze was born in Valencia, CA, on August 1st, 1997, and raised in the same loving home where she passed away on June 21st, 2024. Megan was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. Her journey through life was marked by passion, dedication, and an infectious joy that touched everyone who knew her.
Megan's love for rugby was a defining part of her life. She began playing in high school and continued through her college years at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where she obtained her Bachelor of Economics Degree. During an interview with “The Highlander,” UCR’s newspaper, Megan stated, “I came here for the rugby team. I played for two years in high school and it was my love. So I looked for a school that had rugby and my majors and this school had both, so I came here.” Her dedication to the sport and her teammates was unwavering, and she aspired to play Division I rugby by the time she graduated. Megan’s commitment extended beyond the field, as she later earned her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Woodbury University at the young age of 22.
In addition to her academic and athletic achievements, Megan enjoyed dancing, boxing, and was a black belt in Taekwondo, showcasing her discipline and strength. For a time, she worked for the United Cerebral Palsy Institute, helping disabled clients. She acquired her Real Estate and Life and Health Licenses. She served as President of the American Red Cross Santa Clarita Youth Corps and the Canyon High School Red Cross Club. She also earned a certificate of completion with the People to People Student Ambassador Program, where she traveled to Australia, and was a member of the National English Honor Society. Professionally, Megan worked as a Management Analyst with the Bureau of Engineering, Department of Sanitation, in the City of Los Angeles.
Megan's bright light and beautiful spirit were evident in her many interests and activities. She loved to host family game nights, meal prep for the approaching weeks, and care for her plants. She would often visit her mom and her mom’s partner, Tomas, in Texas. Megan and Tomas both loved demolishing and renovating her mom’s house; consequently, Megan’s prior employment at Lowe's certainly proved beneficial. Megan also enjoyed hanging out with her friends and going on hikes. They especially loved going to the beach, which contributed to her accepting a position with the City of Los Angeles, located in Playa Del Rey. When she had the opportunity, Megan would visit her Nina Conception in Hawthorne, whom Megan loved dearly and where she felt at home.
Megan was a radiant soul who graced our lives with her captivating smile and gentle spirit. Her presence illuminated every room, spreading warmth and joy to all those fortunate enough to know her. Megan's beauty transcended the physical, radiating from within through her compassionate heart and unwavering kindness. She touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark of love and grace. In her essence, Megan embodied the true meaning of beauty—a beauty that emanated from her soul and touched the hearts of all who crossed her path. She will forever be remembered for her light and love. Megan was deeply committed to environmental conservation, supporting non-profits such as The Nature Conservancy which focused on tree planting. She often mentioned to her mom her desire to someday live in a small, sustainable house. Megan had actually found some she liked in Texas but she and Tomas decided they were going to build one themselves.
Megan is survived by her devoted mother, Amira L. Houze, Amira’s partner Tomas; Megan’s loving father, Monte C. Houze, and his girlfriend Ana; sister, Lacy; brother-in-law Darren; niece, Sabrina; and nephew Ayden. She also leaves behind her beloved grandmother, Luisa Santos. Megan's family meant everything to her, and she shared a deep bond with each member. On her mother's side, she is survived by her uncle Rafael and aunt Miriam with their children Janet, Cristina, and Gabriela; her uncle Emigdio and aunt Mary with their children Cesar, Yanara, April, Candy, Emmy, and Emigdio; her uncle Crispin and aunt Hilda with their children Crispin Jr., Connie, and Antonio; her godmother Concepcion and godfather Julio with their children Cecilia, Janet, Jacqueline, and Julie; her aunt Dolores and uncle Ernesto with their children Estrella, Yesenia, Iris, Jasmin, Yakira, Noeli, and Ernesto; her uncle Joel, his ex-wife Carmen with their children Jenny and Luis, his partner Edna with their daughter Loyda; her aunt Evelia, her partner Adrian, with her children Enasio, Roderick, Isaiah, and Denzel; her uncle Noe and aunt Claribel with their daughter Noemy; and her uncle Luis and aunt Marcela with their children Macio, Anya, and Josue. On her father's side, Megan is survived by her cousins Trudy, Jackie, Julie, Paul, David, Tina, Latoya, and Nathan. Each of these relationships was precious to Megan, and her family will forever remember her as a bright light in their lives.
Megan was loved and adored by all who knew her. Her joyful spirit and the light she brought into our lives will never be forgotten. This tragic loss was unexpected, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched.
