February 29th, 1972 - January 31st, 2021
McCall Woodroof Hedges was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend. McCall was known for her fun loving and outgoing personality. To know McCall was to love her. Her infectious laugh was often the first and last thing you heard. It was a beacon of her fun and warm nature. McCall was an avid tennis player in her youth and enjoyed watching her daughter, McCormick, learn the sport that brought her so much joy. McCall was a wonderful student and successful marketing executive. She was a bright light when she entered the room and left a lasting impression on all those who loved her from West Point to Columbus to Chapel Hill to New York, Atlanta and beyond. McCall’s friendships are one of her strongest legacies. She was a loyal and loving friend and brought much joy to all that knew her. Most of all McCall was an incredible mother to her true joy, McCormick. Please use this page to share memories of McCall. I hope McCormick will be able to look back on this tribute and know what an impact her mom had on so many lives and how she was truly loved.

God bless my beautiful, sparky friend. I was shocked and profoundly saddened to learn of her passing. We worked very closely together during her last few years in New York. McCall was smart, thoughtful, persistent and upbeat; she was thorough, prepared and respected for her leadership and contributions to a large, groundbreaking project. Business aside, I admired her for her way of bringing humor into our days, her genuine concern for others and the beauty and grace as she whisked into the room. Peace, my friend. You will always be remembered with love.

McCall was a great friend. I loved her smile and her laugh. She definitely had a unique way of lighting up a room. We had such a fun group of friends in high school and I also have great memories of visiting her when she lived in Atlanta. We saw many good times and concerts. I regret losing touch with her over the years. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family. May she rest in peace.

This post is overdue, as I have struggled with the news of McCall's passing, as I know so many have as well. I grew up with McCall in West Point, Georgia. McCall, Bentley and Burke were my first friends in life and we all attended the same school through junior high. Although we had grown apart, I reconnected with McCall by email in 2019 and we had plans to get together, but unfortunately they never materialized with work, family, covid, etc. getting in the way. Like others' posts, McCall was one of a kind. Growing up, she was an incredible student, athlete and friend. She was funny and adventurous and independent and super competitive, but always fun to be around. We were both competitive tennis players from an early age and I'm not sure I've seen many people hit a forehand with as much velocity and tenacity as McCall. She was a beautiful person and I understand a wonderful mother and she will be dearly missed by so many. I am fortunate to have made many good friends since those early days, but there is truly something special about old friends from childhood. I only wish I had a second chance of re-connecting with my old friend, as we had planned. My heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to McCormick, Nathan, Ann, Woody, Helaine and all that knew and loved here.

I love you Mom. There is nothing I would want more in the world than to be able to have helped you. I will be sending up a lantern to you on January 31st and every year after.

I am just now getting to the point where I can verbalize my feelings about McCall. What a tremendous loss. I loved her very much. We had an interesting, lifelong friendship. It started on the western to her at age 15. Then, we were at Carolina together, then another break, and in Atlanta together. Strangely, our friendship went in cycles of five years. Meaning that, each time we lost touch, five years went past, and we were back together! I’m not sure I know anyone Blake mccall, she broke the mold for sure. I had lots of choices of aunt goats etc. to list here. But I’ll just say this: if I was going to an event where I knew she would be, I would be excited to see her. To say she’s an instrument interesting conversationalist would be the understatement of the century. I was always impressed with her drive and work ethic. She only had one speed, 100%. I really admire that about her. It’s hard for me to grapple with the fact that she’s gone, some thing that certainly call me way off guard. The other thing about McCall, is her wonderful family. Every single one of them has been so welcoming and generous to me over our lifetimes. Best of the best.

Being in a cabin with McCall at Rockbrook Camp was a highlight of my first summer away from home. McCall was a go-getter in tennis, rock climbing, canoeing - just about everything! She was funny and fun and irreverent and independent. McCall led the way on those hiking and canoeing prize trips - paddling like crazy and singing all the way home!
