April 7th, 1973 - August 25th, 2023
Matthew Todd Jackson (born Garnet Antonio Taylor de Lam), son of R. Kern and Diana Jackson, was born on April 7, 1973 in Laguna de Perlas, Nicaragua. He died in Oklahoma on August 25, 2023. He is survived by his parents Kern and Diana Jackson of Medical Lake, WA; sister Rebecca Hartman and her husband Victor of Spokane, WA; Lauri Sproule and her husband Dan and their children Anna, Aaron, Ellen, Isaac, Adalyn and Emmett of Medical Lake, WA; and his brother R. Kern Jackson Jr. and his wife KaDee. He is survived by many members of his extended family. He is also survived by his biological parents Hilda Lam and Ludwig Taylor of Nicaragua along with numerous siblings and extended family.
Kern and Diana met Matthew while working at a small Moravian hospital in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. He came to the hospital as a baby needing much physical care and quickly captured their hearts as they cared for him. He became part of the Jackson family through adoption. Soon after, the Jackson family moved back to Oklahoma where Matthew lived most of his life.
Matthew graduated from McAlester High School in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1991. He served in the Coast Guard for 8 years and was based in Maine and Virginia. Matthew returned to Oklahoma where he worked as a professional truck driver for many years.
Matthew loved his family and friends well. He always enjoyed making people laugh. He also had a special gift for connecting with children of all ages. He loved to make them laugh too. His nieces and nephews loved this about him. He will be deeply missed.

Knew Matt from high school. Ran into him again a few years ago and have kept in touch with him since. We share a love of OU football and funny memes. My husband and I met up with him several times in OKC and sometimes just caught up with him by video call. He is such a great guy, funny, and a thoughtful friend. He went to Spokane once and brought me and my husband (also named Matt, which was a constant joke lol) souvenirs. Gosh, I’m going to miss him. Sending hugs and prayers to his family.

My first memory of Matthew was when we moved two doors down and my Matt and Matthew became best friends. I remember one time when Matt came home with money in his pocket. I asked him where he had gotten it. His answer floored me, he had said l sold Matthew some rocks I had found. I immediately told him to take the money back. As far as I know he never did that again. I had to laugh afterward. He was Matt’s first best friend. I miss those days.

I only had a chance to meet Matt this summer at our family reunion. I’d heard so much about how fun he was. He was a great guy that I talked with that day for a long time and was able to play some spoons with. He was up in IL by our house this past summer and I wish we could have connected. He will be missed!

Matthew was my oldest cousin and I thought he was the coolest person ever. Despite being the oldest and being constantly bombarded with little cousins who wanted him to play, I never remember Matt having a bad attitude or being anything but fun. We played a lot of games. Matthew was terrible at Sardines, his laugh would always give it away. He would do anything to win at Spoons (including some creative cheating) and would encourage all kinds of antics during penny poker. Matt had a quick witted comeback for every situation. I remember being with Aunt Carol Ann and Matt asked her what we were doing. She said, “dragging Main” and he responded, “Oh, that’s why we’re going so slow.” I will remember Matt as loving, loyal, and good hearted with a quick wit and an unforgettable laugh. We sure are going to miss that guy.

Even though I didn’t get to see Matthew grow up, he was one of my favorites in Sunday School when he was very young. He had such a sweet soul. So very sorry to hear of his passing. I know he loved his family deeply.
