Marwan, what can we say about Marwan? What can’t we say. A larger than life softy with a heart of gold and a love of swearing. He was so many things to so many people: beloved father, husband, son, brother and a great friend to so many.  Marwan was a passionate environmentalist, in fact he was passionate about everything he believed in, and didn’t hold back on expressing his opinions. We all loved him for this because, if we were honest, he was probably saying what we were thinking. A thoughtful and entertaining host, many generations came across his caring ways as he ‘guided’ the youth of Mombasa through the teenage years at Pirates. He loved being with friends but was equally at home in his own company, researching, reading and always wanting to learn more and more. His kindness and level headedness will be missed indescribably by all of his family and friends scattered around the world. He was the greatest person to travel with and many memories were made on our travels. He is now on the greatest journey and his soul lives on in his precious Natasha who he adored from day one. She was the love of his life and brought a sparkle to his eyes. He was the proudest person when she completed her PhD studies. As she carries on his legacy of science and caring for the world, we should all be grateful for what he had to offer to us all. When you think of Marwan, remember the good times  - the conversation, the fun, the laughter and, of course, the swearing. He was very much loved by so many people and would have been humbled by the outpouring of grief. Raise a glass to Marwan, we will always love you and remember you.

So sorry to learn about the passing of Marwan. He was a good friend and my mentor. I had been trying to get in touch with him since April with no vain. I remember sending him an email last month with the subject ‘Concern’. With me I remain with five ‘Saving Mother Earth’ books he gave me to sell and one that he signed and gave me. I will forever hold him in my heart. May his memories live with us. Heartfelt condolences to Sally, Natasha, entire family and friends who loved Marwan.

Man You told me you were going to the hospital and little did I know that would be the last time we met. You taught me a lot and a lot I learnt from you... I will miss you. It’s really sad to learn about this. I may not even know how or why but your spirit will live with us.

It’s been about 7 weeks but I still find it hard to believe you’re gone. I often find myself recalling something I want to ask/talk to you about, and when I turn to my phone I remember you’re gone, and for a moment I feel angry and lost. There was still so much to talk about, so much to do, so much to learn, more salads to make. You were among the few people I’d say have had a great impact in my life, every time I met you I’d leave a better/more knowledgeable person, and now I’m left wondering who to learn the stuff from. I still hear you say, ‘sasa’, ‘what the latest?’, ‘mama Mia’, cursing at rogue drivers, etc...oh how we never realize the value of moments until they’re gone! You were an amazing person, caring, a great & generous supporter of my community project and even took your time to accompany me to some of the visits, happily donated your book, a great boss to my side hustle which is now gone, and most of all; an amazing friend I’ll live to cherish. No words could express how it hurts to keep remembering that you’re gone, I’ve tried to find the right ones but even after all this time I couldn’t, and I still have to fight tears while typing this. I hope this tribute does you some justice.... I miss you dearly, and will always do!.... https://sylvieamayo.medium.com/to-my-dear-recently-deceased-friend-8a3f3573ff60?source=friends_link&sk=55895e15e4b83d0c7d5ee82d8d0639f5

Although my interactions with Mr. Misbah were minimal, they were worthwhile and very inspiring. His legacy lives on, and I will make sure his passion for the environment - through his literary work - is known by many when the time is right. May he rest in peace :) Sending all my love to his beautiful family!
