"During my journeyman life I've experienced and done many different things and been privileged to travel, live and work all over the world. I've had many adventures, epic ups and glorious lows, met a lot of incredible people (and some bastards) and many became close friends, not the bastards. I say thank you to all, because at times, I could be really bloody hard work!"

I have so many memories of Mark, his laugh & love of adventures at the top of the list. Sharing time with Joyce & Leila, including roast dinners at our place where Mark's comment every time was "yum, roast mmmmm". Diving & fishing at Hahei with Dirk & Dottie which Mark enjoyed to the fullest. Travelling through Western Australia on a grand adventure with Mark & Mike was the trip of a lifetime, including hours of planning with maps & google beforehand. It was an extremely sad day when Mark made the decision to move back to the UK, but it was the right thing to do, for himself & his family. As recently as September he was telling me about a trip to Spain that he had planned to do in October, including returning to NZ to be with Cliff & Ange. This didn't come to pass, but I found it totally wonderful that so close to the end, he still had hope. The grief I feel will lessen in time, but the love & respect that I had for Mark will never leave me. Arohanui, rest in peace my friend, Riss xxxxx

I worked with Mark on modelling of possible climate change effects and their consequences for water resources, here in New Zealand. I loved it. He was a delight to work with, even when we disagreed on some aspect of our work, he was very professional (and often right!). A great friend. I will miss him.

Mark spoke of "bastards" in his biography above. He didn't mention "good bastards" which is how I’d describe him. Always up for a chat, a moan, a beer, or just a good story reflecting his many adventures. You'll be missed mate. I'm grateful that our paths crossed in the science phase of your life.
