Mark and I joined MSP so many years ago, I have now forgotten when? The picture attached was from 2000 with the entire group. Mark is at the far left. For years we skied together soon after Howard Cross joined us and we would ski together telling stories and laughing all day long! Some days Katya would join us with a friend or two and we would ski all over the mountain. Both Mark and Katya were accomplished skiers and together no trail went unchallenged! Our friendship blossomed over the years and although skiing up north was the glue which held us together, we continued to build our friendship with our families. From riding through Manhattan on our bikes in the Tour NYC or just meeting in NYC or Boston we always were together, and mostly through Mark's persistence! We will all miss him, wonderful personality, habitually schmoozer, with a quick wit and could take a dig as well as give it!

Amy and I met Mark and Katya when we all took swing dancing lessons together -- how fitting that we would meet while learning how to have fun in new ways -- it seems like he was always doing that! It was through Mark that I got involved in the Polar-Type Bears and spent many miles on the road pushing myself to meet new physical and mental challenges. I was always amazed how he could put "mind over matter" and complete grueling rides in the summer heat with a minimum of training! Watching Mark's example, there was no way I wouldn't do my best to support our collective fight against MS. Outside of cycling we spent many meals together with our families enjoying good food and drink, and even better company. I am sure Mark and Katya hosted us far more often than the other way around, as their generosity and hospitality were boundless. Whether it was over a sizzling grill, a bubbling pasta pot, or something delicious coming out of the oven, our conversations ranged far and wide -- covering global issues, the latest business trends, how to DIY this or that, or recent books that he'd read and recommended. Time passed quickly when you were with Mark, and before you knew it, the time to go home had come and gone. Indeed, your time with us was far too short, my friend. Like all the great ones, you've left us longing for more! Love and hugs to all your family and loved ones!

Charlie and I met Mark and Katya when our husbands volunteered for the Mount Snow's ski patrol. We would often ski, sit by the fire after lunch, and have amazing dinners. At our homes. Katya cooked Russian food and I cooked Haitian food. My fondest memories are the sleigh rides with those thick blankets during Christmas and the wonderful holiday meals. Mark had a big smile, great laugh, and was such a character. Members of the ski patrol always joked that he was a Russian spy. He would laugh but never denied it. When we had children our activities included the kids and Mark was the biggest kid in the room! We purchased a home in Vermont because Mark alerted me that there was a foreclosure available. It was such a find! It allowed us to spend more time in Vermont as we renovated the house. Mark was bigger than life and a wonderful friend. He will be sorely missed.

When I first met Mark, we were OCS candidates at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was the student company commander and he had called out over the intercom "is there a previous teacher that could come to the office?" I was a previous high school teacher so I came running to the office. Amongst all the chaos sat a cool calm collected man directing things. He was so very handsome. (My Italian grandmother thought he looked like Joseph Campanella, the movie star.) He needed someone to run the mimeograph copy machine and figured a teacher would know how. From that point on, we graduated from OCS, got married, had two daughters and from Adrienne and Becca came our three grandchildren, Ian, Cole and Eva. All of us will miss you.
