Mark David Broas

September 23rd, 1956 - December 15th, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Broas on December 15, 2025 at age 69. He was surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was born on September 23, 1956, in Battle Creek, MI, to the late Robert and Jackie Broas. Mark married Stacy D. Blair on November 28, 1986, in Grand Haven and they enjoyed 39 years of marriage together.
He is well remembered as a man who touched the lives of those around him with his wit, wisdom, and eagerness to help.
As a driven and curious person, Mark filled many of his days with projects. Learning as he tinkered away, he enjoyed passing on his knowledge to those around him. He appreciated the ingenuity and creativity of humanity, finding as much beauty in finely crafted antiques as he did in a simple makeshift tool.
Among Mark’s favorite things to do were being a goofball; playing euchre, cribbage and darts; singing and playing his guitar around the campfire; spending quality time with his family and friends; and showing compassion for every person he met. He was also an avid outdoorsman and spent some of his favorite days fishing local rivers and lakes; hunting deer and turkey; and camping on the Muskegon River.
A hard working man, he was an employee of Consumer’s Energy for 38 years, where he led line crews and was an active member of the Utility Workers Union of America. He enjoyed 7 years of retirement, spending much of his time with his wife, family, and friends.
Mark’s legacy of honesty, compassion, and humor will live on in those who had the great privilege of knowing him. He lived a full and beautiful life, characterized most by the small, thoughtful things he did for those around him.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Stacy Broas; daughters Brittany Campbell, Ashley Broas, and Erika Broas; granddaughter Maisie Campbell, grandson Martín Sequeira-Cortez; brother Robin Broas, and sister Holly Timmer. He was preceded in death by his parents Jackie and Robert Broas.
Donations can be made in his honor to the Muskegon River Watershed Assembly, an organization that protects and preserves the river and land that Mark so cherished.

Having grown up as a neighbor and friend of the Broas family, every member of this family has shown compassion, love and kindness to damn near everyone in their path. One memory in particular, as I was much younger and spending the night at the Broas household for the first time, I recall not being able to sleep because I was still afraid of the dark. Mark offered to console my tiny fear by turning on the hallway light outside of Erika’s room while also ensuring his daughter could still sleep peacefully too. This tiny gesture and care he showed to me, all while still thinking of his daughter, spoke volumes to my younger self.

What beautiful pages make up the chapters of my life with you in them. Puzzles, 31, euchre, hunting, shooting, deers, John deere, camping, tool tutorials, “gardening”, gluten-full pizzas, snowblowers, cars, mechanical work, blues, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Martin guitars, cancellable-humor… there was always something to bond over or something you were wanting to teach me. Your wings were ready for you to soar but my heart was never ready to see you take off. Missing you deeply today.

I’ve known this goofball my whole life… and the world won’t be the same without him. Always loved this photo

What is your favorite memory shared with Mark?
The first Saturday in May every year. A group of guys would gather at Brower Park in Mecosta County for a weekend of fishing and camaraderie. Even if I didn't see Mark much throughout the year, I could always count on seeing him at this event. He would fish all day and pick his guitar all night. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He will be missed.

Mark Broas a high school friend & classmate. We enjoyed many a lively conversation during Friday trivia in history class! He usually won! Mark spoke at our 1974 commencement ceremony. I don’t remember what he said. But, I know for sure we were laughing! Sending my sincere condolences to the family.

To the Beautiful Broas Family, My love goes out to all of you! Mark was such a neat fellow and fascinating human. When I think of him, I think of his huge smile, laughter, and his ultimate silliness. His musical talent was so cool to experience. There are several musicians that remind me of him to this day. Mark’s willingness to help us with whatever kind of goofy kid shenanigans we’d get into—which we did quite a lot—was inspiring. He would also always greet me with “Hey Tone!” any time he saw me, which definitely made me feel like part of the family when I was around. On a silly note: Brittany, do you remember when I popped the weird-blue-dyed-water-squish-tube-thing at your cottage? I was so scared that I ruined your white carpet. Your dad came in with a towel and magically removed the liquid from the carpet without a hint of it remaining. He was an absolute magician/hero that day. Sending hugs into the universe to you. Love, Toni
