Mark Robert Birden, 62, of Monrovia, Indiana, passed away on April 13, 2020 after a long and painful battle with cancer. Mark was born on February 26, 1958 to Mary Stone and Robert Birden in Tipton, Indiana. His mother passed when he was 5 years of age, and he always wished he had more time with her. Mark graduated from Clinton Central High School in 1976. On May 18, 1988, he met his life partner and love of his life, Robert Scholes. They wed in 2017 at their home "on the prairie", surrounded by friends and family. Mark and Robert were a perfect example of unconditional love, and had 32 years of happiness together. Mark also adored his cats. Mark loved absolutely every person and every animal. He had a heart of gold and would do absolutely anything to help anyone. He wanted to see everybody happy. Mark was predeceased by his mother Mary Stone, and his sister Valarie Dixon. He is survived by his husband Robert Scholes, his father Robert Birden, his brother in-law and sister in-laws, and his nieces and nephews. He is very missed by all that knew him.

Uncle Mark was extremely kind, had a great sense of humor and was a great listener. One of my favorite memories was helping Uncle Mark and Uncle Bob move into their house in Monrovia on the prairie. It was one of the happiest moments of my life to see my two uncles who loved each other very dearly get married after so many years together and I will also cherish that forever. Uncle Mark you will always be in our hearts and we love you so much.

Dear Mark, The first time i met you you interviewed me for a job at Hardee's and i got the job. My first day at work i was shocked to see a manager jump right in the way you did most managers stayed locked in the manager's office only venturing out to grab a drink or food. You stayed on the floor with us and if you saw something that needed done you would take care of it you never acted like you were above us and i loved that about you. You were the kindest person that i ever came across i never heard you say a bad word about anybody very, very few people could make that claim. When i talked to you i always felt like you really cared about what i had to say. I loved how much you loved animals i'm the same you were so kind to me when i lost Rain. You were such a shy person and when i asked you for a hug the day after Rain passed you gave me one i got ur shoulder all wet with tears i was so devastated. You kept telling me it was ok and i could hear in ur voice that you were crying too you tried to hide it to be strong for me. Every person or animal you came in contact with loved you how could they not?. I miss you Mark and i will miss you forever we will never know how many lives you touched in such a good way. Thank you for being such a good man for Robert and loving him the way you did. Rest easy my dear brother until we meet again. Love, Dena

From Facebook Comments: Karen McFadden: Absolutely loved working with you and Mark at Hardee's!! Made my job so much easier!! Love you!! Paul Seymour: I'm 49, knew Mark Birden in the mid 80s. Used to hang out at his house, play darts and listen to The Who. Me and my buddies will all miss him. He was different from us. We still liked him. Nice guy, period Laura Murphy: I loved working with You and Mark at Maplehurst. Gosh, So long ago! Mark had such a calming way about him, he was just the guy that was needed when all hell was breaking loose on the lines! He never hesitated to jump in and help anyone who needed a hand. I also remember the pitch- in that we had, you two made the best chili ever! I still have your recipe tucked away in my cookbook. But, I have to say, my best and most cherished memory, was watching the two of You getting (finally!) Married. I remember it took a few minutes for the ceremony to start, because Mark was so choked up with emotion, he had to disappear around the corner, to gather himself. Do you remember That? I believe he cried saying his vows. It was the sweetest wedding I've ever attended, so much love 💕 Robert, as difficult as your loss is, just know that Mark will always be with you, in your heart. All my love sweetheart 💖 Mark Rist: oh om so sorry mark was a special guy heart of gold, very soft spoken.. so sorry Robert Mary Norris: Yep working with you both made it so much fun. Always making a lot of us laugh. I remember you on the lift dancing and Mark was just enjoying the scenery. Y'all had so much love for each other. Not a bad word, every day was a joy with y'all. Love you. April Dixon: I will never forget the first time you guys came into the office and it was Mark first appt. I could see the love in both of you then and I grew to love both of you. When Mark would come in for his treatments and I could go back and talk with both of you and it would always make my day. Mark would always ask me about Lola after we got her and ask me about my man once I started dating again. Robert I was always a shoulder for you to cry on and listen too and I still am! I know that u r broken and hurting beyond words. Just know u r not alone. Love you ❤️ Sandy Mabry: Always taking home donuts for the raccoons!!!
