Mario was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Kindness and happiness radiated from him, despite the difficulties he encountered and survived. I have so many memories of singing with Mario. There’s a Mahalia Jackson gospel song that describes heaven as being able to sing and never get tired. That sounds like Mario to a T. I will miss him dearly. The world is poorer and sadder without him.

I met Mario in 8th grade at East Ave Middle School when we were barely 13 years old. He loved music, I loved sports, and we couldn't be any more different. We started going to Livermore High School and became part of the same friend group. We made so many good memories running around Livermore, getting into trouble, and insisting on having a good time. Mario was my best friend, my ride-or-die, my first phone call when I woke up for over a decade. We travelled to New Mexico three times, Oklahoma twice, Florida once, Arizona a few times, and Southern California many times. We started a snow cone and espresso business and named it Pow Wow Paradise. We organized the Livermore Pow Wow together for seven consecutive years, and people are still talking about it. We helped each other get through really challenging life stuff. We laughed. We cried. We yelled at each other. Our families welcomed each other into their lives, and so many memories were made. The biggest gifts Mario gave me are my children. My boys are my world, and I will forever be grateful for them.

I met Mario in HS and he was always the kindest person with the purest heart. He will always be remembered for that. I last saw him at our 10 year reunion where he made sure I wasn’t feeling nervous about not seeing anyone else I knew. We kept in touch over the years and he always reached out when I was having struggles with my health. I’ll forever remember him for as long as I’m alive. My thoughts are with his family and especially his sons who he was always so proud of!
