In Loving Memory of Margaret "Peggy" Sheppard
On January 16th, 2025, the world dimmed a little for the Sheppard family when their mom, Margaret "Peggy" Sheppard, joined her beloved husband, Walter Harold Sheppard II, in eternal rest. Their love story began nearly sixty years ago, when Peggy became not only Walter’s cherished wife but also his unwavering partner in faith and life. Together, they raised four beautiful children—Walt, Tammy, Kim, and Jay—who are now blessed with 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Peggy had a vibrant spirit that filled the lives of her children and grandchildren with the gift of music. Born with a passion for melody, Peggy spent many years playing the organ and ukulele, sharing her love for music with family. A true kid at heart, she approached life with an infectious sense of wonder and playfulness, never wanting to grow up. Peggy’s children, and more recently her grandchildren, were her greatest treasures; she immersed herself in their worlds, delighting in laughter, jokes, and make-believe adventures that created cherished memories. Her deep faith in Christ anchored her, guiding her belief that this world was merely a passage through and that our true treasures await in heaven. Nothing brought her greater joy than seeing her children actively serve in ministry, as she lived a life devoted to love, faith, and the importance of laying up treasures that last for eternity. Peggy's spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her, reminding us to cherish the music and the memories she gave us.
Peggy was also the author of *Down By The Sea* and a storyteller at heart whose lifelong dream was to preserve the cherished memories of her childhood growing up in North Wildwood, NJ, on 17th Street. Through her vibrant tales, she transported readers back to the joyful adventures and carefree days spent with “The 17th Gang,” allowing them to experience the laughter and camaraderie that defined those times. After years of hearing about her 17th Street adventures, it was the desire of her children to encourage her to bring those stories to life in a book where others could step back in time. She wrote the book, and her children surprised her by publishing it on Amazon. She always said that if she could go back in time, she would return to the 17th Street Gang.
As Peggy now rests in the loving arms of Jesus alongside Walt, they leave behind a legacy of love that will forever echo in the hearts of those who were blessed to know them. A Celebration of Life service for Peggy will be held on January 28th at 11:00 AM at Tri-City Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 24058 Heritage Place, Port Charlotte, FL 33980. All are welcome to honor her memory.
