Mementos

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Margaret. She is predeceased by her husband Tony (2011).

Margaret was born in Temora, New South Wales Australia, the youngest of four children. She was raised as a child on a large sheep farm (Morangarell Station) and after leaving secondary school pursued a degree in physiotherapy. In her early twenties she decided to travel and eventually ended up in Vancouver, B.C.

Margaret met and then married Frank Hennessey and they had one daughter, Kerri. Margaret continued to work both part and full time during her life and thoroughly enjoyed her job as a physiotherapist, retiring at age 65. In 1970 Margaret married widower Tony Repard who brought two daughters with him into the marriage, Allison and Caroline. In 1975 they welcomed their fourth daughter Theodora (Dora).

In her free time Margaret enjoyed excursions with family and friends aboard their sailboat exploring the Gulf islands and Desolation sound. Margaret enjoyed the sport of tennis and was a member of the Jericho Tennis club where she developed many friendships. After retirement Margaret and Tony purchased property at Madeira Park on the Sunshine coast and had many wonderful times there as well.

Margaret was a committed Christian and was involved for many years with several churches including First Baptist Church and the Amy circle women’s group where she developed lifelong friends. In her last few years, she attended Capilano Church in West Vancouver. Margaret was a wonderful cook and family, and friends appreciated many dinners, celebrations and holiday events at the family home. She was also excited when her daughters and their families from Toronto and The Netherlands came to visit. She made a few trips back to Australia during her life and she and Tony also travelled to Britain, The Netherlands and other European destinations.

Margaret leaves behind daughters Kerri (Rob), Allison (Brian), Caroline (Ted), and Dora (Matt). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren Sacha, Jesper, Emerald, Arabella, Teagan, Aven, and Nolan. She also leaves behind 5 nieces in Australia.

Margaret loved life and always tried to live life to the fullest, giving it her all. She had a can-do attitude and did not easily say no to challenges. Due to Covid-19 there will not be a service, however, there is this virtual memorial website with Margaret’s profile and photos. The family welcomes any thoughts, comments or stories you wish to leave.

Our family, Vicki, Fred, Owen and Kelsey, were very sad to learn of Margaret's passing. Thank you for reaching out to us. We met Margaret, as a PT, when Owen and Kelsey were small. She truly had a caring nature for everyone that she met. Although we met through her career as a PT, Margaret reached out to become a friend to our family. One Christmas, Owen, Kelsey, Margaret and I went to enjoy the beautiful holiday lights festival at Van Dusen Gardens; for a number of years we stayed in touch with Christmas cards. As she and Tony had moved from 33rd to our neighborhood in Kitsilano, occasionally, on walks, we would walk by their home on Waterloo and say hello. Margaret was a very special lady whom we were most fortunate to have met. We send our deepest condolences as you navigate this very difficult time.

As a university friend of Dora's, I found Margaret and Tony were always kind and fun to visit with. In my mid-20s, they and Dora invited my husband and me to join them on a sailing vacation, which was lots of fun. I remember debating the merits of different educational systems, eating good food, and going for a long walk with Margaret on some gulf island during which we became well and truly lost and needed to hitch-hike back to the marina! Fun memories.

Margaret and Tony were instrumental in getting us involved with the Gulf Yacht Club. We have happy memories of times spent together on the water, particularly when they were aboard “Harmony”. We enjoyed wonderful visits in their home and have happy recollections of several lovely dinner parties. Margaret always seemed to be able to see the brighter side of things, a refreshing trait. Margaret so loved her family and always had the dates of the next visit ready to share. A very special lady! Dawn Douthwaite

Mike and I are sorry to hear of Margaret's passing. We met Tony and Margaret through the Gulf Yacht Club, where we four were members. We do remember very well that they won a prize Rae had donated at the Annual Gulf Yacht Club Dinner and Awards night. The prize was custom painted portrait of their boat, and they were very pleased to receive that. We enjoyed visiting with them in the years before we moved away from the city.

Margaret was a wonderful friend and will be missed. We enjoyed time together on the tennis courts at Jericho and had continued on with luncheons there to catch up on the news. Margaret was special. She took such pride in you girls and your accomplishments. I always enjoyed hearing about your families. Virginia

We are sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing but know that she had a great life that positively impacted and encouraged many people. She was very fortunate to have experienced the joy of so many good relationships with her family members and friends throughout her life. Garry and I knew Tony and Marg from our University Chapel days. We were in their house small group from 1986 to 1992 and thoroughly enjoyed our time with them in the Trafalgar street house. We really appreciated their hospitality and commitment to our group for all of those years. They were always good natured and easy to be around. Garry and I were married in 1988, moved to Alert Bay in October 1992 and started our family of three kids. We had a Catalina 27 for 14 years while in Alert Bay so shared Tony and Marg's interest in sailing. One summer they sailed up the coast and stopped in to visit us in Alert Bay (I can't remember the year). A highlight of their visit was heading out for the day to some of our favourite places in the Broughton Islands in their much bigger sailboat. Best regards, Catherine and Garry Ullstrom (Campbell River, BC)
