Malcolm adored his children and would do anything for them. He wanted desperately for his children to get a university education, that he was never able to get for himself. He would be so proud of the young adults that they have become. They are exceptional, nice people and both girls have completed they university degree and josh is on his 4th year of engineering, following in his dads greatest desire. I miss Malcolm everyday, and have a hard time believing it has been 5 years since I have held him or heard his voice. Love you buns.

Josh was third and final and joined a very busy household. We had been in our house in Hillhurst about 2 years and renovations were still in full swing. Malcolm built the kids a playhouse castle under the stairs, were Josh hid one day and fell asleep. I was at work and Malcolm could not find him, the neighbors were all looking and Malcolm had called the police. He was in big trouble, when he popped back out upstairs. Malcolm built them a play center in the back yard with swings and climbing bars, the kids down the street were always over to play. Every winter he would flood the back yard and build a skating rink where all three learned to skate.

Malcolm loved field hockey and renovating, but their was nothing he loved more than his three kids. Cassidy was first and she was tiny but made herself heard. She rode on Malcolm's back in a backpack, climbing mountains and in a snuggly on his front playing meadow golf with the Cougars at the campouts. She travelled to Penticton for the summer field hockey tournament and was the youngest cheerleader there. When she was old enough she went to practices with Malcolm while he was coaching the under 14 girls, then the under 16 girls and then the under 18 girls and them he took the girls team to New Brunswick (I think ) for nationals. He spent hours with the teams, they came over for team building exercises and strategy sessions. Cassidy saw it all, and I am sure that Malcolm instilled in Cassidy some of her drive for excellence in sports

Christmas was a favorite time of year for Malcolm and he always had the kids pose together for photos to send out in Christmas cards for friends and family. One year he had all the kids in their respective "costumes " from their sports. Josh got off lucky because he did karate, Cassidy did gymnastics in a bodysuit and Samantha did synchronized swimming and is wearing a bathing suit. The shoot took quite a while to get a picture he was happy with because the kids were a tiny bit grumpy about posing in the snow. But now we have the pictures and memories and it is so cute.

Samantha was second and she was completely her own person with her own personality right from the start. She was often found on Malcolm's chest as they both had a affinity for naps. Like Malcolm, Samantha was creative, loved to draw and when she was older loved to cook together. They watched cooking shows, together they created "manta" burgers, which to this day is one of my favorite meals. Malcolm coached Samantha's team in soccer for several years and they were Island champs.

We started renovating our little home in Sunnyside even before we got married, and continued to renovate until Cassidy was 9 months old and moving around too much to contain her safely. We moved to Hillhurst in Calgary and started renovating our house that was built in 1908. We were in constant renovation mode and had two more children who were quickly taught how to help by staying out of the way until they were old enough to actually help. The rundown house that we started with was beautiful when we sold it to move to Vancouver Island, a place we had wanted to live since we had seen it when we went to Mavericks University graduation in Victoria. There was lots of grumbling over the years but all 3 kids, have seen how to build a house from the ground up, know how to use power tools, how to tile and grout, how to build kitchen cabinets, how to install pine tongue and groove onto a exposed ceiling two floors high , working on scaffolding and ladders 20 feet above the floor. Designing and painting their own rooms, painting trim for the floors and all of the windows and doors. Huddling around the only heat source trying to do their homework until Malcolm called a halt for the night and we would notice it was 9 o'clock and everything was closed again, except A&W.
