Maggie (Margaret) Hicks

To family she was Mom, Mommom, or Aunt Marg. To friends she was Maggie or Mag. To all who met her, she was inspiration, joy, and love. Though she is gone, her legacy lives on in those she touched, no matter what they were lucky enough to call her.
During her 96 years on earth, Maggie inspired us in many ways. No one cooked a better crab soup, played a better game of poker, or told a better story than Maggie. She loved telling stories of her escapades, mishaps, and adventures and reveled in the laughter of others. She was always quick with a joke, even if the punchline was at her own expense. Her jovial nature was contagious, which was obvious as she so often left the room in stiches.
Maggie had a way of making everyone that she met feel like family, whether that meant opening up her home to those who needed a safe and warm place to stay, preparing daily meals for fellow Parkview residents who were lonely, or baking cakes and leaving them on the doorsteps of her friends; Maggie made sure that her people always felt her love. It’s no wonder that she was one of the most social and adored residents in her community.
A real life Rosie the Riveter, Maggie left home to serve her country during WWII, manufacturing parts for airplanes. Throughout her life she honed many impressive skills from refinishing furniture to match making. But above all else, Maggie’s proudest accomplishment was her family. Though she had five children of her own, she stepped in to help raise many others. Her greatest joy was spending time with them.
Maggie will be missed dearly by her four surviving children, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. We know Maggie is eating ice cream, playing Kings in the Corner, and listening to Jim Reeves songs in heaven with her daughter, Phyllis, but here on earth her light is still shining brighter than her closet full of bedazzled sweaters and dangly earrings. We will think of her and smile every time we call a bingo, see a collie walking, or get a whiff of Estee Lauder perfume. A celebration of life will be held when it is safe for friends and family to gather again.
