Luis Lara, 92, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on January 14, 2023. Luis is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Teresa Garcia Lara, along with five children: Louie and Gina Lara, Bob and Chris Lara, Arnold and Sonia Lara, Sandra and Steven Kraus and Margie and Robert Kraus: eleven grandchildren: Gabriel and Michael Lara, Nicole Jensen, Nina and Lia Lara, Arnoldo, Antonio and Abram Lara, Jane Elizabeth Keeney and Samuel Kraus, and Joshua Kraus: 9 great grandchildren: Sabrina, Alexander and Vanessa Lara, Bella and Tristan Lara, Mekenzie and Rylee Jensen and Ellie Jean Keeney, and their most beloved pet: Bonnie Lara. Being a kind and dependable husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was of the utmost importance to Luis and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. Dad was a man of few words. He taught us the value of warm heartedness and hard work. He gently and quietly reminded us that we mattered and we had a purpose in this world---to love and be loved. He was and always will be our “Iron Horse” ---strong, beautiful, and persevering. Dad---you made this world a better place. Luis graduated from Tucson High School and loved being a Badger. He served in the Army National Guard. He met his beautiful bride and wife at the age of 19, Teresa Garcia. He was very involved with the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Margaret’s Church. Luis continually stayed involved in his faith through music ministry, prayer meetings and other church community activities. He worked as a mechanic and supervisor for the City of Tucson Water Department for 36 years. A special thank you to Amanda, Patty, Eli and Curt from Hospice Family Care in Tucson for their loving care and support during his final days. We extend our sincerest gratitude to all of you for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time. A private family memorial service for Luis will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023.

So sorry to hear my cousin passed away. Last time I saw him was at Pita's house, one of his sisters, when I was visiting my mother . As always with a smile on his face and joking around. One fond memory I have is when he was going to high school and he stopped by our home and had dinner with us. He was so loved by all of us. He is now in heaven. My condolences to all of you. Love, Cecilia

He was my childhood hero. My memories are of him taking me to the ballgames.

Nina Terry and my cousins, I'm very sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of going to the "purple" house and playing and enjoying my time there. Louie was more like an uncle figure in my life rather then my cousin. May the Lord bless you all with His healing love.
