Linda Dinsmore Comer, 69, passed away at home in Fairfax, VA on April 8th 2024 after a short but brave battle with cancer.  Linda was born in Washington, DC, on July 30, 1954, to Allen W. Dinsmore, and Joann (Jewell) Dinsmore.  Linda grew up in Vienna, Virginia where she was active in her church youth group. She graduated from Oakton High School in 1972 and went on to attend Washington School for Secretaries. She worked for several law firms in the Washington area in her early career before taking a hiatus to raise her family.  Linda married Mike Comer in 1975, becoming an instant step-mom. Linda was always great with children, and when her youngest was in pre-school, Linda became a teacher at Vienna Baptist Children Center where her kids attended.  That is where her love of Ladybugs came into her life, as the teacher in the Ladybug classroom, and it carried with her throughout her life.  Linda went on to become a Kindergarten Instructional Assistant in 2003, where she supported Brookfield Elementary School in Chantilly for 16 years until her retirement in 2019.

Linda loved her family fiercely and was always involved in their activities; from being the leader of the Girl Scout troop (Troop 3308), attending countless sporting events and choir concerts.  Her true calling came when she became a grandma.  She was the best at it, and her grandkids always had a craft to do, or an activity that G-ma had planned.  She loved them to the moon and back.  In her free time, she loved to read, and enjoyed her book club group.  She was a true beachcomber and loved sitting with her toes in the sand where she spent many a summer making memories with her family and friends. She became a weekly mahjong player, was very active in a roving dinner meet-up group, and would never turn down a fun day out to a winery.

She is survived by her husband of over 48 years, Mike Comer; daughter Amy Comer (Paul Kuhman) of Herndon, VA, daughter Laurie Peterson (Tom) of Bristow, VA; son Ryan Comer (Andie) of Herndon, VA; daughter Jill Fisher (Justin) of Palmyra, VA;  3 beautiful granddaughters, Emily, Mackenzie and Madelyn; and a sister Julie Coari (Steve) of Virginia Beach.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Joann Dinsmore, and granddaughter, Olivia Peterson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Vienna Presbyterian Church at 124 Park Street NE, Vienna, VA 22180, followed by a Celebration of Life reception from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at The Lake House at 11450 Baron Cameron Ave, Reston, VA 20190.  A private burial will be scheduled at a later date.  In honor of Linda’s joyous personality, we ask that you wear a joyful color in remembrance of her.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Educate Fairfax, or The Girl Scouts of the USA.

I met Linda 10 years ago at a cooking group MeetUp. She was extremely friendly and put me at ease with her genuine joy and caring. She welcomed me into the group and made a difficult time in my life so much easier with her cheerful and supportive manner. Linda shared her joy with all who knew her. A quote from Mother Teresa aptly describes Linda. “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” She will be deeply missed.
