Friday 4/16/2021 I sadly lost my friend and brother-in-law, Leon “Butch” Allen at age 78. He lived a “full life”, as they say, but this was in his first 65 years. He served honorably in active combat in Vietnam, and had a full career in military service with the Army. Unfortunately, about 12 years ago, Leon fell down stairs which left him in a coma with brain damage. While he was being treated for this at Augusta University Hospital, he fell again and suffered major hip damage. They were never successful in replacing his hip, and Leon was moved to the Charlie Norwood VA Center for palliative care. He was not happy with his very restricted living there, even though it was deemed necessary for his condition. I firmly believe Leon preferred death to escape those circumstances. So my wish is that Leon may now enjoy his new life as a “free spirit” with our Lord.
