Lee Ann Foster Battle

March 10th, 1947 to July 4th, 2024

Lee Ann burst into the Battle family’s life as a bright star when she was 15.  Her husband, Bill Battle, knew she was the one from the first date onward.  Their first date was on October 5th, 1962.  Rather than ask, Bill told Lee Ann they were going on a date because he did not want to chance her saying no.

Lee Ann was affectionately known as Lee Baby by many who knew her well.   Bill and Lee Ann (Baby) were together for 62 years.

Lee Ann’s parents, Raymond and Evelyn Foster, and her sister, Eva Foster Roberts, and brother “Bucky” Foster, lived a few miles from the Battle family in Huntsville, Alabama. The Fosters loved, and still love, her dearly.

Lee Ann attended Farly, Huntsville High, the University of Alabama and Georgia State University.  She maintained a straight A average from first grade through college graduation, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Georgia State University.  She waited until her son, Matthew, started school to complete her last two years of college.  She became a school teacher who made a difference in the lives of her students.

The Battle family remembers her as a young girl with brightly colored clothes.  She was always full of laughter, knew how to have fun, and treated everyone she met with kindness and respect.

On June 2nd, 1967, Lee Ann married Bill Battle at Latham Memorial Methodist Church, where they both had attended Miss Lillie Latham’s Methodist Youth Fellowship.

Lee Ann loved her daddy, Raymond, so much and adored her only child, Matthew Joseph Battle.  For most of their lives, Lee Ann and Bill were together.  They always expected to be reunited in Heaven.

Through her long illness Bill took perfect care of Lee Ann, with assistance from her son Matthew and his husband Rafael. We thank Vanessa for her compassionate care of Lee Ann and for forging a close friendship with her as well.

Lee Ann passed away peacefully with Bill at her side, holding her hand and telling her how much he and her family and friends love her.  Matthew and Rafael were able to tell her goodbye, for now, as well.

Her son Matthew loves to tell his favorite story involving his mom.  In first grade Matthew and a schoolmate argued over whose mom was prettier.  Matthew’s schoolmate came to visit one day, and Lee Ann answered the door.  When he saw her he exclaimed “woah, you’re right!’.  Lee Ann was and is a beautiful soul inside and out.

Lee Ann’s life will be celebrated by family and friends on August 31st from 2pm to 4:30pm in the Farley Room at Latham Church, 109 Weatherly Road SE, Huntsville, Alabama, 35803.  Please dress casually and comfortably, and if you wish, wear something yellow in honor of Lee Ann.  Many happy stories will be told as we share food and fellowship.

Rest in peace, Lee Ann.  Wife, mom, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend.  You were and are loved so deeply by so many.  We will all see you again.
