Our brave, strong, beautiful, clever, incredible mum has always been ahead of her time. She lived her values, love, wildness, and authenticity - living outside the box, living fully and truly, and teaching this in every moment with us.
I do not have the words to capture even part of what I'm feelng with her passing. All the love and awe and wonder of just being close with her and having her in my world.
We are holding a service in her memory and honour on Wednesday 1 December 2021 and welcome all who knew and loved Laurel to attend either in person or online - please message aroha@hotmail.co.uk for more details including our order of service booklet.
Here is the link for the service - the service will continue to be available online for anyone who cannot make it on the day:

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Where to start….. Firstly I’m really feeling for everyone right now and my thoughts and everything i have are with you right now. My name is Jiah and I’m Laurel’s son. This life had different paths for us not by any fault of our own. I would always wonder why I would feel or think a certain way. Sometimes I felt like the black sheep growing up. I soon realised that this was a gift. Its great being different in this world and for that i want to say thank you mum. What a strong, independent awe-inspiring woman. Natasha, Isis and Jimi, you should feel so proud to have a mother that was sent from a different world. Someone that would always have your back and be a support like no other. I can only imagin the advice and guidance she’s given not only to her family but to friends and complete strangers , making them feel safe and everything was going to be alright even though in your heads the world was coming to an end. This calmness and energy i felt a few years back when we were finally reunited. I was given a hug and love for a lifetime of not being able to. Her smile blessed my being to my core. I can’t even imagine what she’s been through. If i lost my son……. Shit I wouldn’t want to think about it, I certainly wouldn’t have been been as strong as her. I love my son more than anything in the world and thats how she made me feel in just a few seconds. How you’ve battled with illness but still been such a blessing to the world i have no idea how that’s even possible? Thank you for helping me solve part of my puzzle, thank you for sending me love and energy even when we were worlds away, thank you for giving me the gift of family, thank you for being such a beautiful angel and lastly thank you for being my mother. With all my heart and soul i love you. Jiah X

I think of the many things we did together, for a while we were single parents experiencing the challenges while also enjoying independence. Mostly it is the quietness we shared that I guess we treasured the most. In the whirlwind of family life it is small moments of peace that resonate down through time...

All my love and thoughts to you all as you cope with losing your mum and friend. Laurel was a strong, confident, articulate, stylish lady who thought deeply about life and loved to debate her ideas with others. I remember trips to the mountain skiing, hot pools. Op shopping .... she loved a bargain and had an eye for quality. A very unique and individual person in every way. First and foremost she loved her children. Arohanui
