A memorial service will be held in honor of Lawrence “Larry” Magee, who passed away on March 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Doors will open at 4:30 PM on Saturday, September 19th, at the Garde Arts Center, 325 State St, New London, CT 06320. The memorial service celebrating Larry’s life is planned to begin at 5:00 PM.

Please see this link from the Garde about the various places to park - https://gardearts.org/visit/
Once parked, there is a specific entrance/door, that is better to use to get to the event rooms, rather than the main entrance. This door is labeled "G", and there will be someone there to greet you. There will also be signage to help you find it. It is located to the right of the main entrance when facing the building. If you enter through the main entrance, don't worry, people will help you find us!

The service will include an opportunity for family and friends to share memories and reflect on the many people and passions that made his life so special. Immediately following the service, guests are encouraged to stay for a catered reception, and to continue sharing stories and memories together. This is intended to be a celebration of his life, and we want everyone to feel comfortable in doing so.

If you are not able to attend the service itself, please still feel absolutely welcome to visit the reception at any point you can!

Larry was a proud and dedicated father and husband who spent more than 50 years at Electric Boat, where he became highly respected for his skill, dedication, and ability to solve even the most challenging of problems. He had a lifelong fascination with how things worked and was a highly accomplished machinist, draftsman, craftsman, sailor, and outdoorsman. He was dedicated to the environment and preservation efforts, and contributed to a wide variety of conservation related non-profits, both local and national. Included in his great passions are the cats that shared his life, to whom he was overwhelmingly attached. He took a great interest and delight in the many species of birds, reptiles, and other animals observed near his home, the "critters". In his passion for vehicles, he especially loved helicopters and airplanes. He was particularly fond of antique tools and machines, lathes in particular, and accumulated an impressive collection over his life. He remained an exceptional draftsman to the end of his days, actively working on plans using his treasured drafting table and enjoying teaching at any opportunity. Larry will be remembered most of all for his devotion to his family, his distinctive humor, his ever-present willingness to help others, and the many passions he pursued throughout his life.
