Larry S. Maestas, 1956-2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Larry S. Maestas, 68, of Rio Chama, NM.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who passed away peacefully at home on Friday August 30, 2024, after enduring a longtime illness. Larry was born on May 16, 1956, in Albany, CA.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Maestas; his mother, Vitalia Maestas; his daughter-in-law, Crystal Maestas; his brother, Manuel Maestas; his father-in-law, Delfin Garcia; his mother-in-law, Virginia Garcia; his sisters-in-law, Jeannette Maestas and Doreen Mondragon; his brothers-in-law, Donald Archuleta, Richard Garcia, and Alex Mondragon; and other beloved relatives who held a special place in his heart.

Larry’s greatest joy came from the love he shared with his devoted wife of 51 years, Sandra Maestas, and their children—LuAnn, Sammy (Naomi), and Leo (Tori)—who were his world. As a proud grandfather, he treasured every moment with his grandchildren—Andres (Destiny), GiAnna (Alex), Serenity, Isaiah, Julian, Ezekiel, and Ava—and his great-grandchildren, Narah, Bryce, and Eli, creating lasting memories full of laughter and love.

Larry is also survived by his sisters, Vickie Maestas (Archie), Helen Archuleta, Mary Trujillo (Lito), and Cathy Guerrero (Antonio); sisters-in-law, Karen Gallegos, Cathy Martinez (Tony), Diane Gallegos (Jackie) and Cindy Garcia; brothers-in-law, Dale Garcia (Sonia) and Robert Romero.

A seasoned pipeline welder by trade, Larry was deeply committed to his craft while nurturing many passions. His faith and profound relationship with the Lord guided him throughout his life. He was also an avid hunter and camper, finding peace in nature and sharing adventures with his family. His passion for muscle cars and drag racing showcased his adventurous spirit, filling his life with excitement and joy.

Larry will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of his life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Truth Ministries in Arroyo Seco, followed by a burial at San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez. All are welcome to attend.

Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola thanks the Maestas Family for their trust at this time. (505)753-2288

Family of Larry Maestas, Sandra on behalf of my brother Pete Sanchez or Watson as Larry knew him and myself we send you all our most sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor Larry. Hadn’t seen him in a while but did say hello to him at my cousin Mike Gonzales funeral. But every time he’d go over to visit my brother he’d stop at my house as well to say hello. Larry was A GREAT AND FRIENDLY PERSON and was a GREAT PRIVILEGE TO HAVE CALLED HIM A FRIEND. We pray he had a BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY to his HEAVENLY HOME to be reunited with our dear lord Jesus Christ who awaits him with open arms to WELCOME HIM HOME. All so awaiting him are his parents and all his other family that had gone before him. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers during these most difficult days. God bless you all. Our sincere sympathies, Pete (Watson) & Leroy Sanchez
