July 27th, 1937 - December 8th, 2022
Larry Vernon Genzel, 85, of Huntington Beach, CA, passed away on December 08, 2022.
Larry was born on July 27, 1937 in Aberdeen, Washington to Myra and Cecil Genzel. After graduating from Aberdeen High School in 1955, he went on to play football at Grays Harbor Community College. One of his teammates was legendary NFL coach and announcer John Madden. In 1960, Larry graduated from at San Jose State University with a degree in Commercial Art. He was a member of the SIGMA CHI fraternity. His fraternity brothers were his life long friends. In late summer of 1960, Larry married Jolene Jordan and together they had two daughters, Lisa and Dana. He was a member of the Navy reserves and was stationed in San Diego, CA during the early 1960’s.
His artistic ability and love for drawing lead him to his first job in advertising. In the early 1970’s Larry transferred to Southern California to begin his career in sales and marketing. After a long career as a Vice President of Sales and business partner for National Embroidered Emblem, Larry retired at age 70. However, he continued to go into work for several years afterwards.
Larry was an avid runner. Running on average 7-10 miles a day. He was a lover of books, enjoyed skiing, and kayaking. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He attended more soccer games, baseball games, water polo games, and track meets than I am sure he even realized. All in support of his four grandchildren, Katie, Rob, John and Jordan. This time was cherished by all of us as we were able to spend a great amount of time with him.
Our dad/grandpa is truly missed by of all us. He will always be remembered for his stoic, but loving ways. Larry is survived by his daughters Lisa Macdonald and Dana Genzel-Diaz. Son-in-laws Iain Macdonald and Bob Diaz and his four grandchildren.
We will love you forever, Dad/Grandpa!

My condolences to Larry’s daughters, Lisa and Dana, his grandchildren and all of Larry’s loved ones. I met Larry in the late 70’s, we had a lot in common, we shared dinners at his home, went dancing or something close to dancing, I went with on some of his runs, just for support. His family was very important to him, we had many conversations about their sports activities. I have been trying to reach him by phone, checked social media to see if I could reach Dana or Lisa. My prayers and thoughts to you both, as he was always a gentleman, I will remember his wit which always kept me on my toes. Larry “rest in peace”.

My condolences and hugs of prayers. I worked as Mr Genzel’s secretary, at National Embroidered Emblem for many years. He was the greatest, easy going, sweet mannered boss, in a hectic, work environment. I can always remember his handsome innocent smile, yet quirky personality. Rest in Paridise Boss, We will always remember you!
