1942 - August 31st, 2021
Kent Jonathan Kring age 79 of Richmond, TX
8/13/1942 - 8/31/2021
Kent is survived by his wife of 40 years Kathe Kring, his beloved children: Kent Kring (Tammy), Susan Sullivan (Brian), Starr Upton and Kristin Kring (Jon Carey). His cherished grandchildren: Michael Kring, Lauren Kring, Emma Sullivan, Clark Kring, and Kiley Upton. His siblings Roy and Lisa Tews and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and his extensive family adopted through love including: Marianne Richardson, Audie Wright, Kandace Woolbright, and many others. He is a father figure to many, always willing to share encouragement, thoughtful counsel or God’s word.
Kent is best known for his empathy and loving nature. With a jovial and playful personality, he rarely missed an opportunity to connect through laughter. Kent loved the togetherness that a fishing trip provided, whether at the local pond or a 12 hour deep sea expedition. He maintained an elaborately extensive garden, and was preparing to plant his fall tomatoes.
He had a love of sports, and a passion for basketball, playing at the middle, high school, and collegiate levels. He served as President of the Northern Ohio Golf Association. In his retired years, Kent became a Texans Football Super Fan with his long time friend David Parkett. Gaining notoriety through animated support of the Texans led to him staring in a rap video, a Texans Super Fan Calendar, and holding the coveted # 1 Texans Fan Image result on Google. Kent shared his love through coaching, teaching basketball, football, and golf and influencing 100s of students and other coaches for over 20 years.
Kent was also a skilled craftsman, he was a pattern maker and owned Lorain Modern Pattern in Elyria, Ohio. He and his wife owned Furniture Furniture in Richmond, TX until his retirement, after which he entered the field of coaching, at Southwest Christian in Houston, TX.
Due to a surge in COVID 19 infections, and to protect his grandchildren that are too young to be vaccinated, his family will host a closed Memorial Service in his honor. All are welcome to attend virtually via YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDOL4XYg9k5SRrJL8spMHJg or Facebook Live https://www.facebook.com/tccotn/

So sad to hear you are no longer with us. You were such an encouragement to us when we played basketball and volleyball at Living Waters. Prayers for Starr Kristin and Mrs. Kring. Rest in heavenly peace.

I only knew Coach Kring because our basketball teams played each other for the past few years, but I loved EVERY interaction I had with that man. Every conversation with him was a joy and always included some laughter. My last conversation with him was at a golf tournament in April after our team won a state championship in basketball. I will always be struck by HIS joy for our team in winning a title. I maybe spent a grand total of 2 hours with him if you combine all our time together. But in those few interactions this much was clear to me: this man loved Jesus and loved others. The light and joy inside him radiated toward those around him. I can only imagine the whole that those closest to him feel now that He is past. I am simply grateful that I knew him even in the smallest of capacities. Praising God for Coach Kring's life and the innumerable ways he impacted those around him. -Titus
