Keith Johnson

Keith H. Johnson, 75, resident of Grayslake, IL passed away November 20, 2022, at his home. He was born September 23, 1947, in Chicago to the late Arthur and Phyllis Johnson.

Keith grew up in Chicago, IL where he graduated from Amundsen High School. During high school he played football as a linebacker and participated in the school’s bowling team. After high school he dabbled in construction and manufacturing, where he quickly worked his way up to foreman. From there, his boss was so impressed, he offered Keith the opportunity to manage a retail store. He spent the remainder of his career in retail management until his recent retirement in 2020.

Keith married the love of his life on February 6, 1982. He spent his children’s younger years trying to avoid stepping on the landmine of Legos and micromachines, playing beauty parlee and getting everyone dancing with record nights. During his lifetime he managed to ensure his family was always early for their family adventures, just like his departure from his loving family and friends. Keith’s family adventures included being locked out of the rental car, failed BBQ attempts due to hurricane force winds, buckets o’ beer, long bar bills that result in falling into wading pools, giving multiple attitude adjustments throughout the adventures and of course his favorite hobby, fishing.

Keith took his role as Grumpa very seriously. He taught Dylan the importance of working hard to earn the things you want. He showed Dylan how to run for his life after science experiments. Lilly loved to do magic tricks that included strawburbees with her Grumpa that always ended in the best belly chuckles. Jack loved learning to use his brand-new fishing pole with a spinning reel and looks forward for Keith’s fishing skills to take over naturally.

Keith is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jean Johnson, his children, Kevin (Samantha) Johnson and Tiffany Johnson, three wonderful grandchildren, Dylan, Lilly, and Jack, his sister Cindy (Ken) Kus, as well as many cherished brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

To celebrate Keith’s incredibly blessed life, a celebration-of-life will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Mickey Finn’s Brewery at 345 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Come have a bite to eat and a drink to share the memories with Keith’s family in his honor.
