Kathy Jo Machmer was born on June 27, 1946 in Hartley, Iowa to Guy and Harriett Foley. She was welcomed home by sisters Pat and Jackie, and brother Mike followed her sixteen months later. Kathy played the oboe and her family spent their summers on Lake Okoboji until 1960 when they moved to Mesa, AZ. Kathy attended Mesa High School and graduated in 1964. She received a scholarship to ASU and went there for one year before transferring to a renown beauty school in Toronto, Ontario. Following her graduation, Kathy taught other students. When she returned to Arizona she bought her own salon in Scottsdale and later went on to complete barber school. She married Gerry Machmer in 1985 and they later moved to Prescott. They enjoyed traveling in their RV and to their second home in Mexico. After Gerry died Kathy and her sister, Pat, shared a seasonal home in Port Townsend, WA. Over time, Kathy developed a strong love for genealogy. In addition to all the family research she did, genealogy led Kathy to become involved in the Daughters of The American Revolution, the Mayflower Society and the Veterans Voluntary Service organizations. Kathy was a very devoted part of the Northern Arizona Veteran Administration's volunteer service program. Kathy was the VAVS Representative for several service organizations. Kathy provided many hours of volunteer time to support the veterans at the VA in Prescott and she accompanied veterans on 4 Honor Flights to Washington DC as a Guardian. Kathy was highly involved in several lineage service organizations. She held state offices for the Arizona Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), she was State Librarian for one term and State Organizing Secretary for one term. Kathy held the office of Regent for the Yavapai Chapter DAR in Prescott Valley for three terms and she was Chair for several different committees within the Yavapai Chapter. Kathy's other lineage groups included the Arizona Huguenot Society, Hohokam Colony - New England Women's Society, Territorial Chapter - Daughters of American Colonists, Jane George Chapter - Colonial Dames 17th Century, Mayflower Society of Arizona and Prescott National Memorial Ladies. After complications from heart surgery, Kathy died on November 30th, 2020. She was preceded by her parents, sister, Jackie Olivia, husband, Gerry Machmer. Kathy is survived by her sister, Pat Foley, brother Mike Foley and many nieces and nephews. Gerry and Kathy will be interned together in Kansas. Kathy will be greatly missed and forever remembered as glamorous, generous and dedicated to others. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Kathy's memory to Northern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health System, Voluntary Service, 500 N. Highway 89, Prescott, AZ 86313.
