Judy Posius
November 20th, 1947 - March 24th, 2026
November 20th, 1947 - March 24th, 2026
Judith Rae Posius, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by family. For 53 years she poured her heart into raising three children and filled their lives with warmth, laughter and love.
Judy is lovingly remembered by her son Todd Posius and his wife Claire; her son Aaron Posius and partner Renae and their son, Erik; and her daughter Sara Dreiman and her husband Rich and their children, Arija and Dominic — each of whom brought her enormous joy.
Born November 20, 1947, in Washington, D.C., Judy was the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Eskey. The family moved to Inkster, Michigan when she was young, and she later graduated from Cherry Hill High School. She attended Central Michigan University before returning home to work for a family friend. Judy married Richard Posius and together they built a life in Howell, Michigan, where Todd and Aaron were born, and later moved to Escanaba, where Sara completed their family.
Judy’s career in education touched many lives. She began at Franklin Elementary and spent years supporting students and families in the guidance office at Escanaba Area High School before finishing her career at Lemmer Elementary School. Alongside her school work she waited tables at the Swedish Pantry — a place she loved and where regulars knew her by name (and where you can still find her photo/caricature on the menu). She continued there as long as she was able.
Her passions were many: she adored being Grandma to Arija and Dominic, loved her rescue dogs over the years and their brisk walks in any weather, and she found joy in art — from retreats with friends to crafting for local groups. Judy volunteered widely, supporting Y.A.P., the St. Vincent de Paul food Pantry, the Humane Society, her church, and community art programs. She also enjoyed golfing, card games, reading, movies, and simply sitting with friends.
Judy was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, faithful friend, and kind neighbor. Her radiant smile, gentle spirit, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held at the Escanaba Yacht Club on Friday, July 10 to honor Judy - so please save the date and more details will be announced here shortly.

To one of the kindest women I knew in my childhood. Todd, my heart goes out to you and your family. All those sleepovers and Mrs. Posius making us breakfast and suffering through all of our rabble-rousing. All great memories, and I'm so fortunate and grateful to have had her in my life.

How do I say goodbye to my best friend for over 70 years? We met in elementary school, and our friendship was special from the start. When Judy would drive to see her children and grandchildren, she would stop at my house and spend a couple days with me to break up the long drive. We had such a good time, I was always so happy to see her and catch up on our lives. We tried every year or so to meet in different areas in Michigan to spend a few days going to Greenfield Village, Frankenmuth, Mackinaw Island, to name a few, she would come and stay so we could attend several of our class reunions over the years, having so much fun. Our last trip together was this past August when we met the Weathervane Hotel in Charlevoix Michigan, having such a great time, little did I know that would be our last trip together, it broke my heart when I found out that she had taken a turn for the worse. Judy was the kindest, sweetest, and so special, I miss her so very much as I'm sure everyone lives that she touched feel as I do.

Judy loved life and all the experiences it bought. She loved her art group, her card friends and the family vacations to exciting locations. A single Mom working two jobs, she managed to raise three remarkable children. Todd, Sara and Aaron all completed college and are employed in the computer, teaching and medical fields. She was so proud of the adults they have become. I visited her is Atlanta. We laughed about the dogs we has shared and the goofy things they had done. We recounted memorable vacations with family and friends. As she grew tired she asked me, if I could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would I go. I answered "Alaska". Then I asked her the same question. She was silent, then her eyes filled with tears and she said "Home" We both knew GOD had a different plan. We wept.

Judy was one of the most warm and caring people I've ever known. She was such a hard worker. I met her when she worked at Franklin Elementary School. We walked our dogs together when I moved to the same street she lived on. I miss her very much. She was always so delightful to be around!

I first met Judy a the Bridge Table. Always a smile, especially when she took a trick you thought was yours. The last time we met was at the first "No Kings" Rally. Frail with her health issues, Judy still made the time to stand for beliefs. That day was cold, but we shared a smile and an embrace. A kind, gentle soul. Peace, Judy. Keith Fraundorf.
