Judith "Judy" Ellen Judd Powell

Judith Judd Powell, 76, of Onset, MA, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, surrounded by her family. 

Born on February 4, 1949, in Hudson, MA, Judy graduated from Hudson High School in 1966. She later lived in Sanford, NC, where she fulfilled a dream of owning a café with her sister before returning to Massachusetts to be near the ocean. Judy found joy in spending time at the gym with her sister, knitting lap blankets for veterans, and celebrating Christmas with her grandchildren in New York. She had a love for flowers and gardening—but not the watering—and enjoyed feeding the birds that visited her yard. 

Judy was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Helen (O'Donnel) Judd, and her husband, James A. Powell. She is survived by her daughter, Amber Powell VanNostrand; granddaughters, Gracie and Bella VanNostrand; and her sister, Patricia Judd Eiland. She also leaves behind her niece and caregiver, Dr. Jessamyn Kennedy; nephews, Shawn Lecointre and Dan Eiland (Meaghan); stepchildren, Shawn Powell (Carmen), Todd Powell (Lorri), and Jennifer Powell Gray (John); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored. Additionally, she cherished the Hudson High School Class of 1995, whom she considered "her kids." 

Judy worked as a dedicated secretary for many years but always dreamed of becoming a pilot. She was also a well-known waitress at several popular establishments, most notably The Horseshoe Pub, where her family became part of the staff. Alongside her sister Patty, she co-owned The Fresh Choice Café in Sanford, NC, pouring her heart into creating a welcoming space that became an extended family for many. 

A celebration of life will be held at her home in the summer of 2025, with details to be shared at a later date.
