April 25th, 1965 - June 29th, 2023
Mrs. Joyce Amoo, a Fante woman of Cape Coast and Gomoa Fetteh Born on the 25th April 1965 to Mr. Issac Aikins and Madam Kate Amartefio, both of blessed memory. In the early years of her life she receive basic education at the Kaneshie West 7 School where she was a decorated athlete. She got married at age 22 on the 17th November 1987 at the Accra Academy Hall to Mr. George Amoo, whom she blissfully lived with for 36 years until her demise. She ventured into small scale business becoming a trader of all sorts from dresses, to shoes, beverages, fruits, provisions and many more. She later settled in the foodstuffs trade, which she was engaged in for over 20 years at Bortianor Tsokome until her demise. Arguably, she was among the first countable few who started the foodstuff trade at Tsokome Bortianor, serving the whole community far and wide. Her shop, popularly known to the community as Shady Mami, was noted for the reliability and availability of fresh food stuffs, allowing her customers to find whatever they would in the market. Shady Mami was such an industrious woman who never rest even when a kind of foodstuff was low in volume. Her contribution to the Bortianor community is felt across as she wasn’t only business minded but also considerate to the plight of her community in all her dealings. She would often give purchases on credit and maintained her customer volumes consistent over the years. She feed many homes through her work while many drew inspiration to also begin the trade in the area. She will be remembered by her customers as very reliable, flexible yet firm, welcoming and understanding. Religiously, she was a Christian devout. She was baptized, married and served under the ministry of Pastor Van Doddo of the Unique Christian Tabernacle. She was among the early few who started the church at Kaneshie. Her love for God could be testified in her attitude toward the things of God and His people. She was regularly seated in church service and was noted for her signature rendition of the hymn Amazing Grace. It really hits different. She was a prolific dancer at church. Infact the way she sets-off to the fore to display her spirit-filled dancing skills to entertain the throne of God, is today before us, a lingering memorial. She participated in all church activities and supported it most especially at a point in time when the church was in her house for many years at North Kaneshie. Sister Amoo was a very serviceable woman, a loving wife who stacked with her husband in all life’s challenges. She raised three strong boys in the fear of the lord. She was a real mother who will do anything for her children. It could be said without controversy that Mrs Joyce Amoo devoted her entire life to serve her family with the numerous sacrifices she made. Her character was unmatched and full of virtues. In the later years of her life she battled with her health which made life challenging until it pleased the lord to call her to be by His side. She will be greatly missed. We are such privileged to have had Mama Joyce to be our wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunty, cousin, friend, church member and acquaintance. She leaves behind to mourn a caring husband Mr. George Amoo. Three children: Gideon, Shadrack and Joshua, two grandchildren; Grace-Ann and John and her daughter in-law, Angela including sisters, brothers, nephews and cousins. She was 58 years.
