Joseph Wood McGee, age 65, of Hampstead, MD passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in Edinburg, VA in an accident during one of his favorite pastimes, riding his motorcycle on a long weekend trip with friends. Born September 17, 1957, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John and Frankie McGee. He was the dedicated and loving husband of late wife Melanie Ann Elliott. He recently retired after 37 years with Wilson T. Ballard Company, working on the survey team and putting away many company crab feasts. He cherished his time spent with family and life-long friends. He had a great love for classic rock music, Ravens football, grilling hella-good barbeque chicken, riding his road bike and motorcycle, and playing computer games, perhaps most notoriously the game WarLords. Surviving Joe is his daughter Heather McGee, Son-in-law Rick Palumbo, and grandson Reid Palumbo of Hope Valley, RI, son Charlie Anderson and grandchildren Grayson, Riley, Hunter, Caden, and Hailie of Daphne, AL, step-daughters Madison Elliott of Half Moon Bay, CA and Rachel Elliott of San Diego, CA, and brothers Mark and Ken McGee. The family will receive friends during a celebration of life from 12 - 3pm on Sunday, November 13 at Full Moon Pub and Grill (1100 Westminster Pike, Reisterstown, MD 21136). Joe's ashes will be scattered near the Old Lighthouse Beach in the Outer Banks, NC where his parents' ashes were spread. Flowers are welcome and memorial donations can also be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, American Cancer Society, or Alzheimer's Association in his memory.

After many years, I met Joe again at Rachel's weekend wedding at San Diego. During our sporadic conversations, I was struck by How easily he mingled, how so obviously happy he was to be there for such a joyous celebration, and how he was looking forward to reunite with immediate family members whom he had not seen for many years. This was so tragic-a calamity- totally unexpected. My regrets and condolences to All in his family, immediate and extended…and to his friends. I took these pictures at Rachel's and Jonathan's wedding: In honor of his late wife Melanie, Joe wore the same beach wedding outfit that he had on their past special day. He is standing waiting with my brother Fermin ( Rachel's father) and Michael, Madison's boyfriend for family wedding photos. The profile one was during rehearsal dinner celebration. Together with Melanie now; Rest In Peace Joe.🙏🏻❤️

My best to Joe's family and friends on the loss of their beloved Joe. I was so saddened and shocked to hear of Joe's passing. Joe and I go back to junior high school. Melanie and I were in seventh grade and Melanie had a crush on Joe. One morning during homeroom, I decided I would go find Joe McGee in our school's hallway and ask him if he would like to meet her. Joe said yes but once inside Mel's classroom, he became very shy and hid behind the classroom door. I had to coax him out to say hello to her. Once hellos (or rather mumblings) were said, the two of them were totally smitten with each other. Fast forward 51 years, Melanie and I stayed close friends throughout our lives. Joe's devotion over the years of taking care of Melanie and keeping me updated on how Melanie was doing, created a friendship between Joe and me in its own right. After Mel's passing I continued to call Joe to check in on him. I really enjoyed our chats. He was great to talk with and always open and honest with his thoughts and feelings. We had one of our phone calls before his recent trip out west. Joe was so very happy and looking forward to traveling and spending time with his brothers and family. He was thrilled to be going to Rachel's wedding. And from what I have heard he had a most wonderful time. Joe lived life to the fullest, his energy, friendship and loyalty to others will be truly missed. I will miss him. Love and peace to all during this difficult time. Deena

Joe's passing has been a shock to many and difficult to accept, too much of that has occurred these past few years. His family and friends have our deepest sympathies in his sudden demise. Members of my family and I were with Joe in San Diego, just three weeks ago, for our niece's wedding. Rachel, Joe's stepdaughter, and Jonathan's wedding was a beautiful and joyous affair for everyone including Joe. Joe was a very happy participant in the event. He conversed warmly and easily with us and always with a smile. He spoke of the beauty of the resort's setting on Mission Bay and told us that his wedding to Melanie had also been a beach one. He lovingly mentioned that the outfit he was wearing for Rachel's wedding was the same one he had worn to marry her mother. A lovely and poignant gesture to have his wife, her mother, there. Joe also happily introduced his nephew to myself, my twin, and our sister-in-law, day after the wedding. They had not seen each other for years and Joe was beaming. Joe's last few weeks, unforeseen as they were, were happy and full ones. He traveled, met new people, connected with family and old friends. I hope this brings some solace to his family and friends. It cannot take away the pain or the shock of his lost to those of you who knew and loved him well, but hopefully it helps a little. My family and I did not know Joe well but what we knew of him and saw at the wedding was a calm, kind, warm, and loving individual who conversed with us easily. Our nieces, Madison and Rachel,!loved and respected him. They were lucky to have had him in their lives and we, as their family, thank him. May he and Melanie Rest In Peace and love and May his family and friends keepJoe in their hearts and thoughts. With our condolences, Estelle Elliott Dobeck and family

Both my family and I extend heartfelt condolences to Joe's family and friends. As surveyor who had just joined WTB, working with, and learning from him during his final year at WTB; I am incredibly thankful to have gotten to know Joe and appreciate his smile and twinkle in his eye. Very grateful to him for his professionalism and friendliness.

Joe I'm still reeling from the whiplash of this news when only weeks ago I saw you so full of life. You embodied everything the term "actions speak louder than words" means. You showed me how to do the hard thing everyone else is too busy talking about to do, you also showed me that you don't have to say anything in return when you don't have anything nice to say, sometimes you can just stand up, walk outside and take a deep breath while looking outside from your patio. You've helped shape me into the person I am today by being a role model I could watch not only be a man of action, but also choose his words wisely. When I was little and you saw my eyes glued to your computer screen while you played WarLords, you made me a disk so I can play as well, when you learned I was getting into classic rock in middle school you burnt me full albums of The Doors and Led Zeppelin. As usual, encouraging my interests not just through words, but through your actions. By the way, there is no one in this world who can make my mom laugh like you. I'm grateful to have had a chance to dance, hike and laugh with you one last time, but I thought there'd be so many more opportunities. I'm going to miss you. Love you, Rachel
